As long as I'm not making too much noise in the basement, my mom really doesn't care what I do.  So as long as I'm not streaming music really loud while I'm on the site, I'm ok spending as much time as I want.

Once I find a girl that not only understands HD, but can actually point out a strong potential recruit that I may have overlooked, that will probably be the day I might considered getting married again.

In a thread of this type in the past, someone talked about finding a computer at the hospital while his wife was in labor just in time to drop a quick "cash bomb" as he put it on a recruit, resulting in him winning a battle for the player.  Anyone remember who that was?  Some of us joked he should have named the kid, a boy, after the recruit.

Edit:  It may have been right after the boy was born that the coach cash bombed.
I don't remember the coach but I remember some funny details This might've been a different story, however.


The computer was in the delivery room for use by doctors/nurses. The coach was surprised to discover that he could access the internet on it.  So, he'd recruit until the doctors came in, quickly close WIS, then pretend to be reviewing his wife's condition.

His comment was, "I'm going to Hell for this,"

I was on a plane and was chatting with an attractive woman in my row. She mentioned that she was from Salem, Oregon. I blurted out, "I coach basketball at Willamette there!"

This led to an awkward conversation, highlighted by my mumbled responses:

"I've never actually been to the school."

"I'm not really a coach."

"My players aren't real."

"I'm pronoucing the school incorrectly? The accent's on the SECOND syallble...Wil-AM-ette?"

No, I'd only seen it written, never spoken. So I thought it was 'William-ETTE', like a man's name.  It wasn't until after the plane ride that I noticed that it's missing the second 'i' in William.

Looks like I should have been a little more clear...The "more I'm winning" comment meant that if my Charleston team is doing well it puts me in an even better mood, which puts her in a better mood. As far as the extra-curricular at 2 and 5am...I only recognize one 2 and 5 a day, and AM isn't it. I do those cycles as fast as possible and get back to sleep. The wife listens to me when I talk about recruits, and has even tweaked my gameplan when I wasn't able to get to a computer. She even told me to sign Tanner Meier, who ultimately became our all-time leading scorer.  We definitely don't plan anything "fun" around those cycles, lol.

My wife only gets mad when it's recruiting and I need to get internet access at odd times to do it. Otherwise she doesn't mind at all and just realizes I play "fantasy basketball" on the internet. It's no big thing.

Kind of a sidenote but really like this thread.  I have a friend who loved Playstation and married a knockout (10+) who was totally cool with him playing on Friday nights while she went out with the friends.  The guy was hilarious as he would always say he had it made, playing video games whenever he wanted and having her leave him alone.  Until the Friday night he came home late.  Walked in on his wife and his friend and discovered not only that he didn't have it made but the reason his wife didn't care that he was always glued to the games.  He is now divorced.  There is such a thing as too good to be true  :)

Girlfriend doesn't know the true level of my dorkiness yet. She knows this place exists, but hasn't observed the effects the recruiting cycles have on my sleep schedule (which I admit I am rather obsessed about), mood, etc. She hasn't moved in yet, but will by Thanksgiving. She believes she can disrupt things if she starts getting frisky. We will see about that, my friends...

as ive told my fellow coaches in the past... any time you are forced to choose between sex and HD, and you choose HD, you know you have a problem... and its time to give it up (the sex, of course!)

My wife totally supports my HD habit, because she sees how much I enjoy it. She even bought me a polo shirt embroidered with Otterbein University Basketball. Of course, this has led to several exchanges with other people that go something like this: 

"What's on your shirt, there? Otterbein University? Where's that?"

"It's a school in Ohio."

"Oh, did you go there?"

"No."

"Did you live near there?"

"No."

"Did someone you know attend school there?"

"No."

"Ummm...why are you wearing the shirt then?"

"Well, there's this online simulated basketball league..."

Cue the other person's eyes glazing over as they lose all interest.
