Stinenavy : To me, a new player, Colonels is not the resident idiot. He is a competitive owner. The situation that he described is probably coincidental, but none of us can say he was wrong for sure. So let's say there is a 5 % chance he is right? Would you see him differently? Some things strange happen during recruiting. I saw Aejones show us what he went through lately and use the ticket way to get no response!!! I have two situations, one when I got hit in the last cycle by three teams at the same time, completly destroying my recruiting effort. It happens to everyone. But when owners leave the next season, or you do not see them close your recruits again, it makes you think, is there collusion here?

I am pretty sure there is collusion in a lot of worlds cause you can't really prevent it 100 %. It's all on everyone ethical decisions. I won't go out and name names... But when I see a guy in DII already on recruits 1500 miles away from campus right from the start, and these players are high on my list, it's either an alt name or one of his friend giving him infos. No owners would scout states that far when recruiting starts. And when you know the player is a stud, it gets strange.

I was not there playing when Colonels got into that situation, but he is pretty convinced it happened... Maybe he is wrong, but sometimes it's tough to change the perception you have of an event. All we can do is remind owners that it's a game, cheating is really detrimental to it and disrespectful to others. Cheating could go as far as letting a friend win the CT to get him into the NT. Or a conference mates to get him into the CT... It could also be playing along with friends and discussing states so you can scout everywhere without paying.
I only read the first couple of sentences. I imagine the rest of this is probably as misguided as what I read.

I'm saying he's wrong. There's a 0% chance he is right. He's being a troll.
So you are saying he does this on purpose and accuse people without having any indication it could have happened?

The old guard here in HD has been extremely helpful to new players, sharing many of their best HD strategies.

"Having said that" (Larry David), there is a *small* portion of the old guard that has a sense of entitlement to recruits and championships that can irritate people.

These things are annoying in HD:

Threads that count titles are pretty annoying... "title number 57 arrived last night like a freshly born colt"...

Threads that belittle titles won via superclasses are annoying... "I'm entitled to championships... and championships must be won within the framework of play that i have rigged and gamed in my favor... and your superclass disturbed that... how dare you... i said good day!"...

Threads that rank quality of titles are annoying... "i won a title coming out of X conference in Y world.... your title sucks because it came out of a ghost town conference..."

Posts that belittle other owners accomplishments in trying to move up... "you clearly need more than 7 NT's to coach at Sacred Heart... in fact anything short of a Sweet -16 should disqualify you from the NEC"... this is annoying because many old guard Div-1 owners qualified by jumping on an A+ Div-2 team and running it into the ground 60 seasons ago.

Threads that give recruiting and player advice to Div-3 owners, from people who haven't coach Div-3 in 55 seasons... "simply send 20 scouting trips and the guy will pull down to you"... or... "I never recruit a guard with less than 140 total for Ath and Speed"... uh, ok... you do realize that D-3 teams get squattrini for recruiting money, so 20 scoutings will destroy their bank account... and that no Div-3 recruit has ever totaled 140... or, no high prestige D-3 team would ever allow a newbie to even get a 140 guy on his consider list...?

Posts that freak out at the use of the term "poaching"... i mean, sheesh... "you have a player lined up to sign, and I'm going to come in at 7:59 and dump $90k without warning on the guy... I'm entitled to the guy because I'm a Big Six team... don't like it?, then earn a place in the Big Six... oh yeah, don't call it poaching you ungrateful little bastard..." i mean, we need a term for this... "advanced cherry-picking?"... "the 7:59 treatment?"... "vulturing?"... "the Vulture Technique?"... someone come up with something, please... "the hyena process"...?

Posts that call out specific teams' supposed undeserved wins or supposed undeserved advancement... a thread that comes to mind was when Hartford made a Final Four... the owner i think was a freakin genius, and gameplanned to perfection... people came on here and trashed him about gimmicky gameplanning and so on... that was annoying... the Hartford owner should be in the HD Hall of Fame.

Now, on the topic of this thread...

I've never played against either of the owners that are part of the discussion. If the accuser wasn't such a loose cannon half the time, his claim might have more strength... but anyway, based on the highly competitive atmosphere in HD, which is a good thing, there is no question that the sort of recruiting technique that this thread describes *does* occur... one guy looks to poach... oops, i mean cherry-pick... at 7:59... a conference-mate runs interference on a different recruit... conference loyalty can run deep around here... it means HD money, prestige, more NT bids...

I mean, all of us are pretty aware of what our conference mates are doing during recruiting... many coaches corners have pages of recruiting re-caps... with admissions of backing-off recruits, etc, etc...

Anyway, HD is a very enjoyable game, and it's much like real life... the posturing, the politicking, the intimidation, the poaching i mean cherry-picking at the last minute, the sense of entitlement from coaches and fanbases... i think the arrogance is good for the sport and good for this game, and I'm enjoying the ride.

And i think i still hold the record for most HD wins or most NT appearances *without* an NT win... 0-8...!

+1 from me as well...all very well said, especially the posts that are annoying bit, which I found funny and I agreed with

just note that none of the 3 teams in question were in the same conference.

Or as you can see zorzii, those that see themselves as keepers of the hd flame are really just ******** and bullies...The stuffy old guard who think they're above the law because they have "titles"

EDIT: This was in response to a gillispie post that he has since altered and/or deleted.
yeah i was drunk and thought better a little later on... apologies...

zorzii what i was getting at was that your post basically said nothing, it was all these generalities and commenting that maybe nobody really knows what happened in the original case - which just comes off weird to me as you said you didnt go read the original thread and weren't aware of the actual details. it seems to me a "nobody really knows for sure" carries little weight when you don't know anything about the situation itself... i think if you went back and read up it would be pretty clear to you why some of us are pretty confident we know. edit: AND that it has little to nothing to do with colonels being colonels - any other coach making the claim would have the same 0% figure attached to the chance of them being right. they just might get smacked around a bit less along the way because they wouldn't defame a fellow coach in such a low class way.

If there was a 0 percent chance of this happening, I would have never said anything to begin with. Johnsensing has beaten me cleanly for recruits before and after this happened...people are just wanting to be Johnsensing slappies blindly in this situation.

There were a couple of posts from dacj501 that were on here that were deleted, I managed to have them because I left a tab open to this page.

no, more like people that have also coached here with both of you for literal years think he's telling the truth and you are being a butthurt fool.

I suppose new coaches should read everything presented and decide for yourselves. Of course, if you are newer coaches you probably don't have a lot of A+ BCS D 1 experience...recruiting as or against for that matter.

Asked the questions and did the research? Ltm...aka you did neither...All u did was say that Johnsensing would never do that and claimed that that discredited me...your say so doesn't mean **** gulluspie

i have one ******* title. what "old guard" am I? your entire proof is that it happened at the same time or something. IANAL but im pretty sure that wouldn't meet any standards of evidence anywhere? And sensing and i have beefed and arent buddies, what is in it for me other than that it disgusts me to watch you spout this **** with no proof.

tell how you are being bullied?

I think the npb7768 post should be its own thread and pinned to the top of the forums.
