He said 1/3 to 2/3 of a letter grade hit. I wasn't A+ when I cut my first one(at least I don't think I was as I had some pretty bad seasons).

From the HD 3.0 FAQ:

Q: What can cause my reputation to change? And how long does it take to recover?
A: Several actions can affect your reputation:
  1. you are investigated for recruiting violations
  2. you rescind a player's scholarship
  3. you break promises
  4. a player quits
  5. a player is declared academically ineligible

The first one can't occur any longer since they removed Booster Gifts a while back.

If I had to guess, #1 and #3 were probably the steepest penalty, #2 and #4 only a slight penalty. #5 shouldn't even be listed as some guys no matter how many minutes you put into SH, just can't stay eligible through no fault of your own.

So you could be the crappiest coach in HD history but still have a sterling reputation...

I'm probably wording it poorly but I had to be in the running for crappiest coach in HD history when I cut my first guy:
93 MikeT23 13-14 11-7 2-6 0-1 7-9 190 81 C-
92 MikeT23 12-16 9-6 2-9 1-1 6-10 320 381 C-
91 MikeT23 7-21 2-11 4-9 1-1 5-11 263 97 C-

Assuming you start at A+, and can build on it with success, I wasn't a high A+ in S93.

It's been so long since I've started out so I don't know what new coaches start out with but success has nothing to do with increasing reputation, it just increases each season you participate.

So you could have a 0-27 season but your reputation could increase a 1/3 of a grade the same way a NC winning coach's might.

Then who was taking rep hits? Like ever?

Interesting. The same guy that has continuously called me a cheater is going to take advantage of a "loophole"
A) I don't know if it's a "loophole".
B) I'm not spending 5 hours repeating the same action over and over again while watching my team get better.
C) I'm not cheating nor am I a liar who "officially" retired from the forums yet still post.
Doesn't matter if you spend 1 minute or 5 hours. You're still exploiting a loophole. Without even knowing it, you've admitted it. Go back and reread what you wrote. So if there is a magic button I can press to automatically increase my ratings by 20 in each attribute, because it only took me a minute, that's ok? There is a difference between "getting better" and "gaining an advantage". By your definition, if you're "gaining an advantage" because of a "loophole" that's cheating, those were your words.

Is there a rule against rescinding scholarships I'm not aware of? Or a rule against redshirting and removing redshirt multiple times? Breaking the rules is the definition of cheating. Nothing else.
HD designed the game and set the rules for what happens to prestige when a scholarship is rescinded. If you don't like the rules they set, petition them to change it. In the meantime, it's how they designed the game.

Every team in every sport uses the rules to their advantage. When the governing body feels a rule is being exploited and distorting the competition they intended, they change the rule.

In 2.0 it was common, especially at high D1, to sign a really awful player by guaranteeing a start and 20 minutes, never playing him, having him transfer, all to preserve your carryover cash from one season to the next. My buddy had an A+ D1 program but was down to a C- reputation at one point and was getting messages from his AD saying they'd fire him if his rep took another hit. In 3.0 rep might just be window dressing.

That's a pretty morally ambiguous way to go thru life. Best example of not breaking rules but considered to be cheating I can think of off the top of my head is steroids in baseball. Wasn't specifically against the rules until recently but Barry Bonds/Rogers Clemens are not getting votes for the HOF for a reason. And it's not because they weren't two of the best during their playing days.

FWIW, the redshirt thing was fixed. I bet WifS will still allow us to rescind scholarships until our dying days.

Men know what cheating is. And exploiting loopholes is addressed in the Fair Play guidance for everyone else.

thecheater17 is so desperate to find vindication for his cheating. Sad.

years ago, there was a clear hit for cutting a player you recruited
9/15/2017 12:10 PM
I don't think that's the case in 3.0. Seems like a rep hit for cutting a guy you recruited is just the boogeyman under the bed. It's scary when you don't really understand the story but you grow up and realize it's not real. Thus far, no one is confirming the rep hit boogeyman.
