Where are all the riots and looting aimed at stopping the THOUSANDS of black-on-black shootings that happen in this Country every year?
Sigh. I cannot believe that I have to explain this.
The purpose of protesting/even rioting for changes to policing is that policing, in theory, should be accountable to the people - it can be easily changed through policy and signs of solidarity by the community should, in theory, work towards change. And the justification for riots (even though I am opposed to them) is that it draws more attention to the problem and acts to change authority (in this analogy, burning a cop car is like the Boston Tea Party - you hurt an oppressor to change the system).
Meanwhile, criminals who kill others are NOT accountable to the public. You could protest for policy changes, sure. I would support that. But these are two fundamentally different problems.
Both are important, but the means by which change is achieved are different. Obviously.
Tldr, we hold cops to a higher standard than criminals. Shocking, I know.
