Fair enough i would pay 30 dollars for a piece of software that a few things i wanted without even thinking about it... think about how much time it would cost you to do it yourself? I would never even consider doing/making an HD helper like elmore made, and I don't see how it really has that much value to the game...and to charge $30 just because it took him a while to come up with it...please...where is he now? Why isn't he holding up his end of the bargain? Just because you worked hard on something, doesn't mean that people should pay money to view/use it ala my rankings and such.

colonels and zhawks - i was not defending what actually happened, least of all the $30 charge and it breaking a couple months later. i was only defending the concept of paying $30 for a helper tool. colonels, the reason it can make the game more enjoyable is simple. for example, consider the time HD oracle was made - pre potential. in d2/d3, you had to plow through page after page of recruits, searching for the top 2% that were worth considering. it took a long time, and got REALLY tedious to do it right. i would have loved to have a tool that automatically imported all potential recruits, and came back with a short list of the ones you actually might consider. would it really change the game? no, but it would cut out the boring part, and i would certainly have a better experience overall.

If it had actually imported recruits it might have been worth it...

if someone designed a tool that could make it easier for folks - like me - who are mathematically capable but computer illiterate to do stuff like capture data, I could imagine paying something for it

seems like this was simply a venture that didnt work out as well as both the producer and the customers hoped

i personally don't understand what the big deal was with potential. i was parsing ratings out of a recruit search results page before potential, and it took about an hour or 2 to incorporate potential. seems the projection formulas would be out the window but i doubt that was the problem. i guess you have to change the concepts of ratings throughout everything for it all to work 100% but for the single task of importing rankings i just don't see what the big deal was. my guess is he had already given up before potential, or was on the brink, because it really was not that significant of a change from a ratings parsing standpoint...

Uh... I just wanted to say that... that I'm a nerd.
And I'm here tonight to stand up for the rights of other nerds.
I mean, all our lives we've been laughed at
and made to feel inferior.
And tonight those bastards, they trashed our house.
Why?
Because we're smart?
Because we look different?
Well, we're not.
I'm a nerd, and... I'm pretty proud of it.

We have news for the beautiful people.
There's a lot more of us than there are of you.
I know there's alumni here tonight.
When you went to Adams, you might have been called a spaz,
or a dork, or a geek.
Any of you that have ever felt...
stepped on, out, picked on, put down,
whether you think you're a nerd or not, why don't you come and join us?
Come on.
No one's really gonna be free until nerd persecution ends.
