If you don`t know the difference between building and tanking i see why we can`t agree on anything.

The high priced older players went 66-96 with a 100M+ payroll and i went 68-94 the next year with a 30M+ payroll so i don`t see where spending the money in FA just to say you spent the money the way MikeT says you should spend it is a better way.

I traded for players who were mostly in AA-AAA who i thought would be ready to help quickly not R-LA players to wait several seasons so i don`t see a problem with that.
Kudos to you for doing it without losing 100. That would indicate that you have at least some concern for the well-being of your BL club. And the league overall.

It was in that world, at least

This is kinda funny because I transferred 40m in Hamilton to prospects. I took the team with the #1 pick. Virtually no BL talent but no salaries. I signed a 5-6 young FA(and just signed another at game 100 to replace an underperforming player in the line-up) and still had lots of $$$ over. I was 45-46 at the break.

Too many of you act as if rebuilding is a "this or that" proposition. It can be some of both. If you trade a 5m salary, you only net 2m in transferrable money. Is that necessary to rebuild?

And, for those of you who insist you need 60m in prospect money to rebuild, you don't. You'll be just fine with 30m.

This thread is 25 pages long, and I'm pretty sure no one has suggested that you need anything over $30 mil to rebuild. There are lots of people who seem to be upset about the concept of a cap on some sort of personal liberties grounds (for the record- I've said from the beginning that I like the cap idea). But I'm not sure anyone has said anything like that.

I could be wrong. Long thread. All sort of bleeds together.

But if you trade a 5M salary that has 4 years then you save 20M and in the future years you can use the full 5M per year to add to scouting, medical or whatever.

I have 2 other teams that were pretty bad but i didn`t tear apart. One made the playoffs my 2nd year from adding to it while i built my farm system so i`m not saying you have to do it any one way but you should have the choice as long as your trying to win.

If your only winning 30-40 games a year then your trying to because if you tend to your lineup and rotation you`ll win more than that even with decent minimum salary players so that is a different story to me.

Well, if we're working on personal liberty restrictions, I want The Man to quit limiting me to 185m. I could build a much better team with 255m.

Well, as for choices, you play the game the way they let you. If you don't like it, you speak with your absence. As I just said, I could build a better team with 255m. But WifS has decided the budget limit is 185m. And the prospect limit will be 30m.

That's really the gist of it.

I didn't say it made sense, but if you read the posts thats what they're saying.

You see it in real life, too. Lots of people are more worried about "The Man" restricting their "liberties" than actual practical consequences.

Additionally, the greatest trick "The Man" ever pulled was convincing the rubes that he ("The Man") is the Government when really "The Man" is a bunch of stuffed-suit, 10th generation money, Wall Street types meeting in smoke-filled back rooms who just want the Government out of the way so they can take the rest of everyone else's money.

Somewhere in these 25 pages there is someone complaining that they wouldn't have taken teams under these guidelines because it restricts their rebuilding efforts.

probably. but that still sounds like code for "the man is pushing me around"

...and so I'll take my ball and go home if they don't stop

It's in here. A couple of times. But, as I said, "the man is pushing us around" anyway with all the rules in this game.

Of course not. Somebody else just made that up.
