oh god... inverse standing ovation for the forum's incompatibility with anything but the crappiest browser in the history of man (internet explorer, if that wasn't obvious)

I would not have posted this. Although most coaches can figure out who is battling who, you just made it clear that UVA is a full out battle so coaches should keep the eye out for it. You kind have made yourself a target now by exposing that UVA won't back down and will make you use a large chunk of funds without forcing the coaches to have to guess
maybe he'll change his ways

alternate take...what do you guys think of using prestige as a means of deciding whether a coach should be fired: i.e., if the program sees a drop in prestige of 1 and 1/3 grades, such as from A+ to B, or a B to C-minus, do you not think that it would be appropriate for the boosters to demand the resignation/firing of a coach?

The only way that could potentially work is if they significantly changed the way prestige was calculated.

Under the current system, your conference and your team's baseline prestige have a rather large impact on your prestige.

So in effect, you could take a middling team in a really strong ACC, he'd have a better chance of holding on to his job than a team with the identical results (rpi, etc.) in a less successful conference with lower baseline team prestige. And that obviously would be quite undesirable. For your suggestion to work, they'd have to dramatically reduce the effect that your conference mates' success has on your prestige. (Note: That's something they should do regardless.)

I'm all for ramping up firings, but (1) I don't think that is the answer and (2) I don't think WIS wants to ramp them up.

wronoj, I'm not saying that there should be no conference tie-in, only that the current conference tie-in is too strong.

It's silly to see a team that hasn't made the NT in five seasons have as good or better a prestige as a team that makes it every season. And why? Because the other teams in your conference make the NT? Does Northwestern in real life maintain a strong prestige? Hardly.

I understand what you're saying about taking over a down team in a power conference, but quite honestly, I don't feel that it's particularly hard to turn a team like that into a postseason team, especially in the potential era.

I've never before heard a coach with an A plus prestige whine because he couldn't get all the players he wanted or had to make some promises to get them.

Hey don't make fun of northwestern......I get to do that on Feb 21 when my badgers are going to thrash em in Madison (what a great X-mas present).

I wasn't happy when I lost a 5 star recruit to a C+ prestige when I was an A prestige. I promised 20 minutes and a starting spot. Spent over 59k on him and I was coming off a national championship loss.

It was pretty much pointless getting to the title game and not be able to get a recruiting edge over a C+ school.

I'm guessing that you out something really significant, that you were at a major distance disadvantage.
