Want the RPI remain higher despite the crappy conference? Aside from what the others have said try scheduling some road games. Its funny but looking at your schedule this year and next, it seems you actually put alot of time into scheduling but your focus seems on playing all your games at home with almost 100% certainty of winning. Play half those games on the road and your RPI would be about 15-20 points higher.

Sometimes there are real seeding complaints.

Two schools, both 23-6:
"A" with RPI 21, SOS 77
"B" with RPI 17, SOS 35.
"B" defeated "A" by 13 pts. OOC.

Let's play "guess which one is a 5 seed and which one a 6 seed?"

Rules: don't use logic when making your choice.

GO!

You're right!

A="5" seed, B="6" seed.

H2H isnt part of the equation as it shouldnt be...you are leaving out other factors which should be considered like record in last 10, RPI record breakdown, road record...etc...

Don't forget the CT too.

I did not realize that the road made a difference. Thanks for the insight.

I never said I didn't schedule some sims. I said that I tried to schedule 5 challenges. I thought those teams would be better. If they were, my SOS would have been a little higher. However, my conference is still killing me.

The basic formula is 25% team winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP).

For the 2004-05 season, the formula was changed to give more weight to road wins vs home wins. A team's win total for RPI purposes is 1.4 * road wins + neutral site wins + 0.6 * home wins. A team's losses is calculated as 0.6 * road losses + neutral site losses + 1.4 * home losses.

This "weighted" record is only used for the 25% of the formula that is each team's winning percentage. The regular team records are used to calculate OWP and OOWP.

Team Conf overall H Away top25 last10
"A" 15-1 23-6 12-0 8-6 2-4 10-0 (7 vs sims)
"B" 13-3 23-6 13-1 7-5 2-2 8-2 (2 vs sims)
Both teams won the CT as #1 seeds.

They probably got it about right almost identical resumes...10-0 is better - 1 more road win - better conference record - the fact a played sims doesnt matter - neither does the H2H...Now if one got a 5 and the other a 10 Id see a problem.

I'm not really complaining, actually. One seed line is not that big a deal in D-II especially. I thought RPI/SOS would carry more weight than the other factors in this case, given that the records are identical, both conf. champs, (though B's conf. is stronger overall.). Obviously, it doesn't.

I realized another possible reason: team A played a team that team B had already played, so they drop B a couple of spots on the S-curve to avoid the first round rematch?

Pertinent to nothing: team A lost, team B won.

I didnt think you were complaining...just thought you were doing a seeding analysis which is always interesting.

Do they try and prevent first round matchups of nonconference games or only between conference mates (I know for conference mates, if possible, they wont even have teams in the same bracket).
