OMFG ... what the heck does this have to do with Cal?

What happened to Bledsoe in the middle of his Junior year of High School after the school he was attending closed?

Allegedly his HS coach did things late in his Junior year or early in his Senior year, before he played well and the big schools started recruiting him.

There might be grades tampering, there might be a high school coach paying things he should not have, whether or not there is anything else with any of the bigger SEC schools we will need to see.

As in the Derrick Rose at Memphis case, Calipari and UK won't be implicated. At worse they'll just be guilty of playing a player they didn't know was ineligible. The NCAA clearinghouse cleared him (and his transcripts) as being eligible. But this should result in a redacted season.

Just as playing Corey Maggette should have resulted in a redacted season for Duke. Wasn't Duke or Coach K's fault, but as you see in the Derrick Rose case the NCAA says "it doesn't matter, you get stripped if you play an ineligible even if we told you he was eligible." This is the dilemma of running what is essentially the minor league for the NBA through a university system, in contrast to what the rest of the world does-- just have professional divisions players can join at a young age.

But UK knew when they hired him that Calipari signs top NBA level talent, and these top players come with these types of risks-- that they've been "used" or "handled" to be eligible for a year of college.

It all depends on what Cali actually knew. Whether the high school coach asked for money. This stuff does seem to happen in his vicinty a lot......Is it the Sargeant Shultz "I know nothink!" approach to compliance.....?? Is it a wee bit more, misbehavior but smarter than the ole cash in the FedEx trick?

Bobby Knight may be an imperfect man - as are we all - but he has called out Cali and between Knight's comments and the - repeated - again - events - it sure does look like Calipari doesnt care much about compliance.....

time for another Calipari vacation!

Ummm .... Cal didn't even recruit Bledsoe for UK. Gillespe did. Cal just made good on the other guy's offer. He did the same thing to Orton.

But lets not let reality get in the way of a good flogging.

Looks like there are differing reports. Had he signed an LOI before Cal came? ya know, he isnt signed until he is signed, right?

No, it was a verbal commitment, and he could have gone elsewhere.

Cal did indeed make contact with both Orton and Bledsoe to tell them that the original offer was still valid ... and I am sure he recruited them more at that point. But both had verbally committed to UK before Gillespie was fired.

And if their was any hanky panky with cash at the end of Bledsoe's Junior season / Beginning of his Senior season, that was when Gillespie was coach, not Cal.

did Cali know about it?

did he look into it?

was he aware that the high school coach demanded money and did he close his eyes to it in the interest of building a quick winner?

IF the NCAA cares, they have been or are looking into it....doubt there is any way for any of us to know what Cali knew and whether he tried to manage the program to avoid violations....although his vacation record does suggest he doesnt try very hard at those elements of his job

what did Kentucky fans think of him when he was the memphis coach?
