I think they will announce wardle as the coach thursday - I don't think gard was too impressive, evidentily he main theme is bo knows basketball and he knows bo - I think moser was very impressive, but withdrew. Gretchz has bennet's support, he interviewed this afternoon, he was the last one, he would be my second guess - I actually think the 4th candidate (harris) would be the second best choice, but he is probably not a serious candidate.

Orlando Early has resigned after 5 seasons at Louisiana-Monroe to accept an assistant's job at South Carolina.

That makes 46 teams that will have new coaches next season

Former Hartford assistant John Gallagher has been named the new men's basketball coach at the school, a source told ESPN.com.

Gallagher, who most recently served as an assistant at the University of Pennsylvania, replaces Dan Leibovitz, who -- oddly enough -- resigned last week to become an assistant at Penn.

Gallagher was Leibovitz's assistant for two seasons at Hartford before leaving to help Glen Miller at Penn in 2008.

Gallagher had resigned from Penn following the Final Four to join ex-Cornell coach Steve Donahue at Boston College. Instead, after 11 years in the assistant's chair, he gets his first chance to be the boss.

Oregon asked for permission to speak with Missouri coach Mike Anderson late Thursday night after it had already spoken with him at a golf event in El Paso, Texas.

The mood among Missouri officials is one of cautious optimism. Anderson has coached the Tigers to NCAA tournament appearances in the last two seasons, reaching the Elite Eight in 2008-09, and Missouri just assembled the best recruiting class (Phil Pressey, Tony Mitchell, Ricky Kreklow and Kadeem Green) under Anderson. ESPNU's Scouts Inc. rates Missouri's class 11th in the country.

Anderson was courted by Georgia a year ago but instead accepted a significant raise to remain with Missouri. A source said Missouri is not in a position to offer Anderson more money this time around.

Sources close to Anderson say that if he were to leave Missouri, the job at Arkansas -- if open -- is one he'd have strong interest in.

Former NBA coaches P.J. Carlesimo and Terry Porter remain candidates at Oregon. Former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried, an assistant at UCLA when the Bruins won the national title in 1995, is also on the Ducks' list.

The Ducks have reportedly made overtures to a significant number of head coaches, including Florida's Billy Donovan, Pitt's Jamie Dixon, Minnesota's Tubby Smith and Michigan State's Tom Izzo. But what was actually offered has not been determined. The one certainty: Oregon wanted to hire Gonzaga coach Mark Few, a Eugene-area native, but was rebuffed by the coach.

Buzz Peterson (Appalachian St.) has accepted the job at UNC-Wilmington. The much-traveled Peterson coached Appalachian St. (1997-2000); Tulsa (2001); Tennessee (2001-05); Coastal Carolina (2006-7); and Appalachian St. again this season. Peterson played on North Carolina's 1982 championship team and was Michael Jordan's roommate.

Holy Cross has hired Milan Brown, who leaves Mt. St. Mary's after 7 years. That's the Maryland school, not the St. Mary's that was in the NT this year.

I've updated the list on page #1

Meanwhile, Oregon is paying a consultant $75,000 to find their new coach. He thinks that their new arena, and lots of money, will be attractive to a big-name coach. He seems to feel that it's still 1939, the last time Oregon won the NT and was an attractive coaching job.

and it was Milan Brown that succeeded Jim Phelan at Mt. St. Mary's when Phelan retired in 2003.

Missouri coach Mike Anderson has decided to stay with the Tigers instead of going to Oregon after the Ducks put on a fullcourt press to lure him to the West Coast.

Anderson signed a new seven-year deal last year after he rebuffed an offer from Georgia. Anderson's new deal pays him $1.55 million and Missouri athletic director Mike Alden told ESPN.com last week that the Tigers couldn't do much more than that.

Anderson has the No. 11 rated recruiting class coming to Columbia, according to ESPNU's Scouts Inc., and the Tigers should be one of the favorites in the Big 12 next season.

Oregon has made reported overtures to Gonzaga's Mark Few, Pitt's Jamie Dixon, Michigan State's Tom Izzo, Florida's Billy Donovan, Texas A&M's Mark Turgeon and Minnesota's Tubby Smith.

If the Ducks don't look toward a former NBA coach like Terry Porter or P.J. Carlesimo then former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried could be a serious player. According to sources, Gottfried has been in the discussion among Oregon officials. But there is a split among the Duck hierarchy as Kilkenny who wants to find a solid coach that might not have the star name while Nike officials want a headline name with a new arena opening next season.

From "NBE Basketball" (edited for length)

Back in November forward Ronald Roberts had signed a letter of intent closing the the early signing period with St.. John’s and Biruta did the same with Rutgers. Now five months later as the Scarlet Knights seem destined for a new coaching staff and the Red Storm already having a new coach in place, both forwards are in limbo and feeling frustrated.

“Well I got released,” Roberts told NBE’s Matt Whitfield tonight after the Jordan Brand Classic regional game, “but I can’t go anywhere else in the Big East.”

Roberts chose the Red Storm over St. Joseph’s back in November.

“Well, I really liked St. Joe’s a lot, but I loved St. John’s,” Roberts told NBE’s Jeff Borzello at the time of his commitment. “I loved the coaches, the players, the atmosphere, the facilities and the campus.”

Now those coaches are gone and the new coach, Steve Lavin, has decided they will move in another direction.

“Growing up I wanted to play in the Big East, but it’s unfortunate St. John’s hasn’t reach out to me,” said Roberts today. “So now I have to go play in another conference.”

“I think I want to visit Georgia Tech, Oklahoma and IU (Indiana),” Roberts said.

So with the Big East no longer an option for the 6-foot-7 forward Roberts will look to wrap up the process soon, taking the visits allowed to him and also with a strong consideration for St. Joseph’s and coach Phil Martelli’s program.

———————————–

While Roberts is free to move on, Gilvydas Biruta is wishing for the same. The 6-foot-8 forward, originally from Lithuania, has requested to be released from his letter of intent, but until the situation between Rutgers and coach Fred Hill is sorted out and, most likely, a new coach is hired Biruta must wait.

“I’m just waiting for my release from Rutgers,” Biruta told NBE’s Matt Whitfield. “I am a little bit because I can’t do anything,” said Biruta. “I can’t go on official visits. I can’t talk to people. All I can do is wait.”

Biruta made just one official visit, to Rutgers, and committed. So, once he receives a release he will have four more official visits available to use. Schools that interest him include Seton Hall, although Big East rules would not allow him to attend another Big East member school since he signed one LOI with another conference member, Creighton, Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Arizona State.

..and meanwhile the search continues in Eugene. I guess targeting only coaches that have won national titles didn't turn out as planned.

Oregon assistant coach, Mike Dunlap, whom some felt was a fallback plan for the Ducks, has taken a spot on Steve Lavin's staff at St. John's.

The Rutgers situation is an absolute mess. Hill still hasn't been officially fired. Rosario wants to transfer and Biruta wants out of his letter of intent.
