Well, this has certainly been an exciting Shootout. For only the 2nd time in Shootout history, there was a 3-way tie for best record in the event. US Coast Guard, Blackburn and Emory & Henry all finished with 7-1 records. First tie-breaker is head-to-head competition results among the 3 teams. Blackburn beat U.S. Coast Guard in pool play to eliminate U.S. Coast Guard.
Between Blackburn and Emory & Henry there was no head-to-head matchup, so we move to record against common opponents. There were 3 common opponents between the two schools: Mary Washington, Martin Luther and West Connecticut State. The records were an identical 2-1...(E & H W/W/L, BLACK W/L/W).
So, for the first time ever, the Shootout moves to a 3rd tiebreaker. We use point differential against common opponents. The results are as follows:
Emory & Henry: +17 v. MW, +13 v. ML, -6 v. WCSU = +24 overall
Blackburn: +13 v. MW, -3 v. ML, +3 v. WCSU = +13 overall
Congratulations to vamrbball and Emory & Henry for winning the most tightly contested Phelan Shootout of all time. I think its safe to say that we will all remember this as long as we hold this event. Great job!!
