lol, anything else that should go w/o saying??
7/27/2010 1:09 PM
The Yankees are EVIL !!!
7/27/2010 1:41 PM
Unfortunately, it still needs saying, apparently. There will always be someone looking for loopholes.
7/27/2010 1:54 PM
loopholes.....really?!?!?
7/27/2010 3:16 PM
slim pickens on the remaining teams.  I would enter if I could get 2004 Cardinals.  Would fit the theme.
7/28/2010 10:58 PM
They didn't play the Yankees that year so not really. If not for Dave Roberts, then yes.

Should we allow up of any team?

With all the diehard Yankees fans on here, it's hard to believe there isn't a diehard Mets fan who wants this sample 2000 Mets team, 100m to 105m. The best options, not necessarily the most expensive. 14 hitters and 11 pitchers.

Starting: C 97 Piazza, 1B 99 Ventura, 2B 00 Alfonzo, 3B 04 Mora, SS 00 Bordick, OF 90 R. Henderson, (2 of the following 3) OF 98 D. Bell, OF 03 Payton, OF 00 Agbayani.

Bench: 3B 97 Zeile, OF D. Hamilton (98 Col partial or 99 NYM partial for high OBP off bench, or 99 complete if you want to start him), C Pratt (00 for decent bat with A+ arm or 02 for .449 OBP with a D arm), 2B 07 Velandia, INF 02 M. Franco, OF 07 T. Perez.

Rotation: 97 Reed (R), 98 Leiter (L), 99 Hampton (L), 00 Rusch (L), 97 Bobby J. Jones (R).

Pen: 04 Benitez (R) (closer), 88 John Franco (L), 00 Wendell (R), 00 Rick White (R) (72 IP, Rays partial), 01 Cook (L), 92 R. Rodriguez (L).

Any Reds fans out there? Sample 1976 Reds team is 114.9M if you start 1976 Griffey Sr. at 1B (as Tony Perez is at 3B and Griffey has worse OF defense than Rose, Foster, and Geronimo). If you start Driessen at 1B all season and draft the 1990 Mariners portion of Griffey Sr. (.377/.443), the roster is 110.5M. As we know, any fool can play 1B, but try telling that to Piazza and Sheffield.

Starting: C 72 Bench, 1B (OF) 76 Griffey Sr., 2B 75 Morgan, 3B 70 Perez, SS 79 Concepcion, OF 69 Rose, OF 77 Foster, OF 76 Geronimo.

Bench: 1B 77 Driessen, 3B 70 Bailey, OF 81 Youngblood, 1B 73 Lum, OF 76 Armbrister, INF 76 Flynn, C 76 Plummer.

Rotation: 71 Nolan (L), 73 Billingham (R), 74 Gullett (L), 76 Zachry (R), 76 Norman (L) (last two most likely relievers, can mostly use a 3-man rotation here).

Pen: 76 Eastwick (R), 72 Borbon (R), 79 McEnaney (L), 76 or 77 Sarmiento (R), 78 Hinton (L). (Sarmiento had a 0.97 WHIP in 41 IP in 1977, but a 1.34 HR/9 IP rate. He had a 1.10 WHIP in in 44 IP 1976 but a 0.21 HR/9 IP rate.)

Yes, donaldj, the Reds are indeed a GREAT choice.    In fact, they were my first choice when the league was initially proposed until I decided to best honor The Boss with a Yankee team.   I went as far as to draft a 118.7M Reds team (the roster is almost exactly as you have proposed in terms of personnel, just a few differences in seasons) and have it available in case I want to go with two squads.

I am not looking to have two teams at the moment, but I agree, whoever enters the Reds will enjoy a very competitive season.

1998 Padres. 103.5M to 104.2M, depending on 87 or 94 Gwynn and 96 R. Rivera (.284/.381/.443) or 00 J. Mouton (13/17 SB, 90 speed rating) as a bench OF.

Starting: C 97 Leyritz (455 PA, A+ arm), 1B 87 Joyner, 2B 95 Q. Veras, 3B 96 Caminiti, SS 02 C. Gomez, OF 87 or 94 Gwynn, OF 98 G. Vaughn, OF 96 S. Finley. (94 Gwynn is .390/.454 with 17 prorated HR but 87 Gwynn is .370/.447 with infinite SB potential and better range.)

Bench: OF/1B 95 Vander Wal, 1B 94 E. Williams, C 03 G. Myers (369 PA, should see some starts), 1B/OF 05 Mark Sweeney, INF 96 Cianfrocco, (1 of the following 2) 96 R. Rivera or 00 J. Mouton.

Rotation: 96 K. Brown (R), 94 Andy Ashby (R), 95 Joey Hamilton (R), 93 Langston (L), 02 Clement (R). (Could take 89 Mariners portion Langston for lower WHIP out of the pen but may be a few team innings short.)

Pen: 98 Hoffman (R) (closer), 88 R. Myers (L), 96 S.Sanders (R), 03 Miceli (R), 00 Wall (R), 92 Pete Smith (R).
7/29/2010 1:25 PM
1977 Dodgers: 117.5M to 118.6M, depending on which backup catcher.

Starting: C 77 Yeager, 1B 77 Garvey/70 Powell (platoon; Powell DH at Yankee Stadium), 2B 79 Lopes, 3B 76 Cey, SS 82 Russell, OF 72 Baker, OF 76 Monday, OF 77 R. Smith.

Bench: 1B Garvey/Powell, OF/3B 80 Lacy, OF 66 Mota, OF 65 Davalillo, OF 84 Leonard, INF 80 Landestoy, C 75 Oates or 68 Grote.

Rotation: 72 Sutton (R), 75 Hooton (R), 68 John (L), 86 Rhoden (R), 67 Downing (L) (last 3 would get some work out of the pen).

Pen: 77 E. Sosa (R) (closer), 72 Rau (L), 74 Hough (R), 74 Garman (R), 80 B. Castillo (R).
7/29/2010 2:54 PM (edited)
Finally, busting the straps at $119,821,725, the 1976 Yankees.

Starting: C 75 Munson, 1B 80 Chambliss, 2B 80 Randolph, 3B 71 Nettles, SS 71 S. Alomar, OF 70 Roy White, OF 77 M. Rivers, OF 72 C. May, DH (platoon) 77 Gamble/77 Piniella.

Bench: OF/DH Gamble/Piniella, OF 79 Velez, OF 74 E. Maddox, 1B 73 Blomberg, INF 71 F. Stanley, C 71 Healy.

Rotation (at 1,795 IP among 10 men, this pitching staff is an embarrassment of riches): 72 C. Hunter (R), 78 Guidry (L), 72 Holtzman (L), 72 Tidrow (R).

Pen: 76 G. Jackson (L), 73 Lyle (L), 80 Rudy May (L), 74 Dock Ellis (R), 83 T. Martinez (L), 87 D. Alexander (R) (Tigers portion).
