Commishes of rolling private worlds... Topic

I'm not trying to recruit.  I'm keeping recruitment to the classifieds, believe me.  I'm just using my own experience as an example to rebuke the points of people who say that all available teams are in worlds that are unbalanced.  Yes, it's a whinefest, because I have a beef with admin.  5 new worlds in the last three months is more than a couple.  Fine, your world is rolling in a month, I'm sure you've got a whole waitlist of poseurs just jumping to join your "elite" world

If any one has bothered to read the ad I have posted for my world, you'll notice that we have been through a cheating scandal (7 seasons ago - still recovering), and parity is getting pretty good, with three teams finishing with 100 + wins, all tied at 102.  We only had one team finish with 100 + losses, at 105.  The last three champions have all been different teams, and this year it will be a different team again.  Before that (we're talking about over a year and a half real time), the championships were generally going to one of two teams, one of which was the cheater, who was booted.  I've been diligent trying to keep the ad visible, but so far, I've only gotten one nibble (who took a team in Alexander instead), and we've had one opening filled because one of our current owners has a friend who wants to try HBD out.  Besides that, NOTHING.  I don't think Yaz is an "elite" world, but we veto unbalanced trades; our owners care about competitive balance.  We don't have the problems described here as being "typical" to worlds right now, and I know that there are other languishing worlds that don't as well.  The only reason I can think for the lack of interest is that there just aren't any takers right now.  The reason for that?  Maybe there's a perception that people just have to wait, and a new world will be created soon enough?  It seems like they are creating them, no matter how stupid it is...  Maybe our luck will change once our world actually rolls, which is still 5 days away.

I'd call that recruiting.   Although, to be fair, you did mix in a little whine about no takers.   Of course, I pointed out that owners are taking teams to refute that.  I believe, at that point, you accused me of trying to derail your recruiting, errr, whining thread.

I'll edit the post for ya, to make sure people to don't get the wrong idea.

No problem for me.   Just call it what it is and don't accuse me of derailing a complaint thread when it's been derailed into a recruiting thread.

You're trying to fill your world.  I get it.   Exposure is good.  Good luck with it.

Ok, you've made your point.  Good for you.  I agree that September is a slow time of year for HBD.  I guess you missed that I agreed with tec on that back on page one.  My complaint about that is after so many years, you'd think WiS would have noticed this trend.  So, was it smart to allow 5 new worlds within 3 months of September?  There are many people in this thread saying that all the available teams are in unbalanced worlds, and I disagree with that.  I guess I could have done some research and found another world that is advertising openings that isn't unbalanced, but I figure that I know my own world better, and don't need to do the research.  I'm guessing that Alexander is a world that doesn't have that problem, since they do have an anti-tanking rule in effect.  Are you now going to say that I'm recruiting for that world as well?

This whole thread is about rolling worlds.  It's gonna be hard to avoid mentioning worlds that happen to be rolling.

shobob, I've made a point of picking up terrible teams to repair.   I can also say I've made a lot of enemies in those worlds because I didn't take the only terrible team(just the worst I could find) and I've objected long and loud when I see how my team got so bad and how the holdover owners are intent on putting another team in that condition.   The owner winning back to back WS and 120 games every season doesn't like it when you say "Dude, stop trading your old, expensive players to the n00bs for his first round draft picks.  He doesn't know any better but you do.  Stop it."   And, because there are others doing the same, albeit less successfully, they join the berating of you for telling people "how to run their franchise".

You're being naive if you don't think owners aren't interested in joining those worlds.    I don't mind the hate but a lot of owners either don't want the fight, don't like the drama or can't handle the insults.
I've done this too.  Somehow I'm always the problem, so I left a world and all the same problems still existed.  I think some people need to be berated and some leagues definitely do.  The leagues have created their own problems, but don't want anybody to come in and really fix the problem.  ABU is a great example - they wanted mike to help get the world going, then they wanted him out when he and some of the owners he brought in wouldn't allow the same old stuff to keep happening.

WifS is a typical corporation, short term profits at the expense of long term sustainable business.  Why cant they learn the simple lesson that September is a slow time therefore dont open any worlds in at least the previous 2-3 months.  And they really need to have anti-noob rape rules too.  Ofcourse those rules (if they were ever to be made) would be as weak as the anti-tanking rules are so whats the point in asking for it?
I love MikeTs idea of being able to take your fav 40 players from your original `dead` world and move it to a more lively fairly balanced elite world.  I think more thought should be put into that.

One thing that might help private worlds recruit would be for WIS/HBD to list the private worlds that have empty slots with the commissioners name, much like they list the public worlds.  Since the password would still be needed to join the private world, a statement to contact the commissioner would be appropriate.  Right now the only private worlds an owner sees are the unfilled worlds he is a member of (and giving a withdrawl option).  The 10 other private worlds that are recruiting are "invisible" unless you already have the password.  This may not seem like much but for newer owners who do not use the forums and/or are intimidated by them this would be a way for prospective owners to get a feel for all the slots available, not just those in the "public" worlds.

Christ, this is so painfully obvious, its brilliant!

That is a GREAT idea!  Throw that up in the suggestion thread, I say!

The nice thing about you recruiting plague, is that you still have a lot of contacts from GD that you encourage to come over to HBD. I dont play any other WIS games anymore, so my contacts are pretty well limited to HBD.

That being said, it is some SERIOUS slim pickings out there right now... people just aren't into baseball right now. And at the end of the seasons that are about to trigger off, you'll be contending with Christmastime, which could be another bludgeoning.
I would guess 95% of the people who join Caray world are not people who I have had contact with in GD. I would say 100% of them are people who have not read the classifieds in the HBD forums.....

I have twice put adds on the classifieds in the forums and  it has never gathered me 1 owner for Caray world.

That is a excellent idea. I think the other way this would help is that established owners generally do not desire to join a world that has gone public. This idea might get a few established owners browsing these worlds and maybe get them a little itch to join one of these worlds.

I'm posting that one in suggestions (with cred to griv)

Plague, I have to ask, how the heck do you get new owners then?  Or is Caray a public world?
