Press really never left, as ronm said.   After the new engine came in, people noticed very quickly that the FB-FCP was no longer dominant.  Have checked results several times the past year in Naismith and Wooden.  Almost no human coaches use the FB these days, but my reviews show that FCP actually outperforms man to man in D3 and D2; in D1, honors are about even.  This is true of human and sim teams.  People noticed press teams were fouling more, and abandoned the press in droves.  But it is still viable at all levels, and superior at D2 and D3.
      The zone lags the other two defenses significantly.   Don't know whether that is a factor of the program, or whether most coaches (myself included) simply don't know how to run one effectively. 

There was a point where FB-FCP teams were dominant?  When was this?

Before the egine change in mid-2010, FCP-FB teams did the best.  After the engine change, there were some number of threads about the increased fouling and turnovers, and lots of coaches abandoned the FB and the FCP.  At this point, there are many teams that still use the press, and as noted, it is on a level with man in D1, and surpasses man in D2 and especially D3.  FB?  Insufficient sample.

I can't really speak about the D2 teams, but I wouldn't make much of this fact for D3.

I pointed this out in the conference corner, but 3 of the 4 FF teams are 3 of the bluest bloods in D3 Allen.  I think any of those 3 programs/coaches would be able to get to a Final Four with any defense scheme.  The fourth FF team barely got by a man-to-man team to make it.  The elite 8 had 5 press and 3 man.

I said this a month ago on this thread and I'll say it again: I can't remember a time in the sim where the three defenses were as equally balanced as they are right now.

Simply stating a fact.  You can qualify it however you like.
