Christmas Eve Recruiting Topic

Recruiting is always on the same day of the week in gridiron? If only the game play didn't suck - I'd be sold!

Not only is recruiting on Christmas eve inconvenient, it's cause for bad manners to boot.
After many, many years of recruiting during inconvenient times, I have mastered the fine art of carrying on a conversation while quietly recruiting at the same time. The key is proper finger positioning and knowing the response time between button clicks. Concealing the phone in a napkin, sending e-mail to yourself (causing the Blackberry to buzz -- "it's work; give me a minute"), or simply restricting glances at the phone to opportune moments can all be successful with just a little practice.

IM going to send a ticket to request HD and HBD put on hold while I finish basic training and AIT.

I only have 2 weeks of basic, and 6 weeks of AIT.

Here is how it works. Everythign continues normally the next 2 weeks until Jan 2 which is when my leave ends and I have to go back to basic. Jan 2 is when WIS freezes, then Feb 26 my graduation date from OSUT si when we resume..

Great idea right?

I know this has been discussed, but there is no reason EVER to postpone recruiting. Its a game. If you are having dinner from 6-8pm, then I assume you would be able to recruit for 5 minutes at some point between 8pm and 11pm. I dont know of many family dinners that last that long. Plus, its a nice reason to get away for a couple minutes. Missing one recruiting cylce is not the end of the world. Are you telling me that you recruit every cylce? If so, I guess you dont really get much sleep.

Except they definitely have. I know there was at least 1 holiday where recruiting was pushed back in the past year or so.

I guess that means it didn't happen, right? I'm curious how you breath with your head stuck up your ***?

Come on, guys, don't you think there's a fundamental difference between a personal issue - vacation or otherwise - and Christmas Eve which, by my recollection, has been December 24th for the last several hundred years?

I was recently out to dinner with my wife and her grandparents during recruiting. A well-timed trip to the bathroom took care of most of the issue. The little tricks that cbriese recommends are golden as well.

Indians basic training will only and always be these 6 weeks. Sounds fair to me.

You know very well when recruiting is/isn't plenty of time in advance. You are worried about 1 cycle as you said yourself when really you only need 15 mins every 6 hours to accomplish it. If you can't make that commitment then you likely shouldn't be coaching.

I have done this many times myself, thankfully when my daughter was born it was not recruiting time (actually the next day was!), so I do not have a good story there.

It's more than one cycle, it's like two full days worth of cycles when one considers the 24th and 25th are often filled with activities not conducive to sitting around a computer.
