So what happens to HD when the Big 12... Topic

This whole thing is about money, and football. Mostly money.

I agree, gators. Being a Husker fan that was stationed in Kansas for a couple of years, it was convenient to be within driving distance to most of Nebraska's conference games, but I don't see myself driving to Ohio or Pennsylvania in the future. I am a fan of 8 team conferences, to be honest. I liked the way the Big 8 was set up. Every team in the conference was each other's rival. And it was very regional. This "Pac 16" is ridiculous. All the way from Washington to Texas? I thought the Big East including USF was a little ridiculous. I just don't think it's gonna be good for college football in general. That being said, something has to happen with the way things are now.

From ESPN.com

For the Kansas Jayhawks and their proud basketball heritage, all this could not be more demeaning.

All of a sudden, Kansas' status as a major player in college athletics has been placed in the hands of Nebraska and -- humiliation of humiliations -- archrival Missouri.

While those two decide whether to abandon the Big 12 for the more lucrative Big Ten, Kansas sits and sweats. A pullout by the Huskers and Tigers could result in the collapse of the Big 12 and strip Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State of the safety and privileges of membership in a Bowl Championship Series conference.

What about the Jayhawks' attractive basketball program, with three national championships, 53 conference titles and 147 consecutive home sellouts? Where conference expansion is concerned, it apparently counts for nothing. Expansion is all about football and television markets.

While the Huskers and Tigers ponder a move to the Big Ten, there are reports -- not denied by the commissioner -- that the Pac-10 may try to snatch away six other Big 12 schools.

If big-time college sports suddenly embarks on an eat-or-be-eaten explosion of expansion, the Jayhawks' great basketball tradition may not hold any more value than the tennis team.

"It's driving me nuts," coach Bill Self said Tuesday.

Kansas basketball fans would rather pull out their toenails than imagine a conference roadtrip to Wyoming and Air Force. I don't think that would be on ESPN.

The Great West would also love to have Kansas. Right now, their highest profile teams are Houston Baptist, Texas-Pan American, and North Dakota. Kansas would never seriously consider it, of course. I just wanted kujayhawk to spew his coffee on the monitor. LOL

LOL..what are friends for, right?

I haven't checked my morning press releases or e-mails at the office yet, but when I went to bed last night there was rumblings that Colorado might start the parade today with an announcement (presumably of PAC-10 intent). Folks in Waco, Texas, will be watching closely.

Kansas may have no alternatives other than the MWC. If Nebraska and Missouri bolt to the Big 10, and the Texas schools go to the PAC-10, where does that leave the Jayhawks and Kansas St???

Kansas' chancellor is personally calling Missouri and Nebraska, begging them to stay in the Big 12.

Kansas doesn't want to lose their BCS status. Not being in a power conference could hurt their basketball, as well, although Memphis St., Xavier and Gonzaga have proven it can be successful

If I'm the B10, I am looking at calling Kansas and Kansas State as well. That would be great for all parties involved.

Kansas State is not a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), which is a requirement for membership in the Big 10. And as I understand it, Kansas State is legislatively tied to KU, in terms of conference affiliation. So whoever takes Kansas has to take Kansas State as well. That essentially means the Big 10 can't take Kansas.
