Every player can be locked up for 10 MLB seasons minus 23 games. No exceptions
Or 11 MLB seasons minus 45 games.

If you don't agree there's a problem, then no need to bother discussing the solution.

There may or may not be a problem in your world. There may or may not be a problem in my world. But, either way, there is no "fix-all" that will be acceptable to both worlds.

So why create a new, yet different, problem that may, or may not, be worse?

There are acceptable solutions that could be address worlds individually, however you think it's acceptable as-is, so again... why are you here?

An acceptable solution based on feedback from my previous suggestion is to take the 2 largest free-agent contracts from 2 different owners each of the previous 3 off-seasons, average them out and make them ask for that amount if it's greater than the default-Ovr ask.

Any suggested solution to using what each world actually offers top free agents is better than the current situation where you either can't re-sign them at all, or you're able to sign them for potentially half as much as they'd get in FA.

You can argue the details of these suggestions and try to come up with something more constructive, but please don't act like these could potentially be worse. The "worst" thing that happens is everyone goes to free agency where the market value is determined by all 32 players. That's better than currently where we only use Ovr as a determining factor of their value.

Why? It can potentially be worse.

Departing owner blows his wad on FA. 20m each. Leaves world. Owner overpays because he's just stupid. Realizes he's screwed his budget for 5 seasons. Leaves world. Owner overpays because he's got nothing else to spend it on. Everyone is with the fallout because 1-2 owners are morons.

How about this? The average salary for EVERY Type A the three previous seasons is averaged out? Every potential Type A asks for that. I bet salaries actually go down.

If you use my way, you get a true representation of the world and not a couple of owners.

I'm getting a headache.......

Fine, let's just keep it how it is, and increase their demands 5 mill. Because hey, obviously the best solution is to pick random numbers based on Ovr and call it good.

Yes, let a few speak for many. EXCELLENT IDEA!!!
10/8/2009 5:29 PM
So you don't like my idea to base it on the average of ALL similar players? Why not?

Not complicated enough!!

When you look around for a job and they ask you how much you'd like to be paid, do you tell them you want the median pay for people in that position with that experience?
10/8/2009 5:33 PM
Actually I think it would indicate the true market and, quite frankly, lower demands. As I've said before, there are a plenty of Type A players who go unsigned. What pudspicker wants is to change the game for 2-5 players per season. That's just dumb when you consider 32 teams have 170 players. The percentage of players affected is so tiny that it doesn't warrant doing.
10/8/2009 5:35 PM
I'll take that as a yes.
10/8/2009 6:08 PM
Take it however you want. I've ran my own business for 12 years. I have no idea what this "look for a job" nonsense means.
