I've seen 3 pre-season polls for next season so far, and all three of them had Butler ranked No. 3. (Duke and Purdue occupied the top spot in those polls). No matter what Stevens' long-term career goals are, I think he'd be wise to return to Butler at least for next season. It's not often that you get the opportunity to coach the No. 3 team in the nation. And unless Butler disappoints terribly next season, Stevens will still be a hot commodity.

A 12 year deal for Stevens! Indiana is finally getting/keeping coaches that can change programs and keep them at a competitive level.

Painter at Purdue, Crean at IU (in a couple of seasons will be back), Butler has Stevens, IUPUI has Ron Hunter (very good coach), Valpo has Homer Drew (a household name in Indiana - father of Scott Drew at Baylor).

Notre Dame made the NCAA again, but not sure what the future holds for Mike Brey.

The only real question marks in Indiana are at Ball State and Indiana State. IPFW is a D1 school, but the expectations there are slim.

Well he won't be going anywhere cause he signed a new contract with butler to 2012 before the final 4 games. Thats from my inside source who lives in Indiana and has follwed butler lastest news. So all this smoke blowing about leaving butler isexactly that smoke blowing my inside source also says the star is not NBA materal so he not going to the draft anytime soon. Butler is a team that plays team work basketball and With medicore players that just want to play good Indiana basketball.

Butler is in on a big time recruit now. Cody Zeller is the younger brother of Luke (Notre Dame) and Tyler (North Carolina).

He has offers from Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Purdue...and now Butler as well.

He said he is highly interested in Butler. Would be a major recruiting coup for Stevens. Zeller is only a JR this year though, so there could be some major changes by the time he decides to sign.

In the 3A Indiana State title game, he had 20 points and 26 rebounds.

One: No one is saying he is leaving anymore... he has already gotten a 12 year deal at Butler.
Two: You obviously are not very knowledgeable on this subject because you refer to Gordan Hayword as the star and are flat out wrong about the NBA material thing, Hayword is mid to late 1st round in most mock drafts.
Three: Butler does not have mediocre players, Hayword Howard, Veasley, and Mack and all very good players.

Yeah tmac, he is a little late to the party.

FYI, smj ... nbadraft.net has Hayward going #20 this year. That's not to say he's definitely leaving, only that he is most assuredly considered a legit NBA prospect.

I think if the whole team wasn't returning, he'd almost certainly be gone, simply because it would be hard for his value to go up much more. But because they'll be preseason top 3-5 with the potential for another monster season, my gut is that will bring him back.

Not late have post on 2 nd page. When they blowing smoke about Oregon going to pay 2.5 m to 3 yr coach who is from Indiana. I was wrong about the contract as I thought I was told till 2012 but it is even better with a 12 yr contract. As far as the players I didn't mean they was bad players but anyway And why wouldhe want to a 20th pick if stays at butler then he mutures and will be higher pick. if even goes at all

remember that a long-term contract doesn't necessarily mean the coach will be coaching until the contract expires or he's fired. I'd like to see Stevens stay at Butler similiar to Few sticking with Gonzaga.

Crean signed a 10-year contract with Marquette (thru 2017) and then signed an 8-10 year contract with Indiana with nine years remaining on the Marquette contract.

Good point. I haven't read about it, but I wonder what kind of buyout is in his contract if/when another school comes calling...
