Don't have any regrets. If you're fighting for a playoff spot, even a marginal upgrade could make the difference.

Look at it this way . . . how would you feel if you didn't make the move, and missed the playoffs by one game?

Yeah, that's true...I would feel like crap. Of course, I'll REALLY feel crappy if I still miss the playoffs!

At the end of the day, you're the only one who can really decide what's best for your franchise. You were leaning towards promoting so that's probably YOUR best option. Like tec said, if you didn't do it based on advice received here AND missed the playoffs, you'd be kicking yourself.

Thanks everyone! Great debate here, this has been a helpful thread.

His first career start, a win:

8 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 8 K, 0 ER

I'll take it!

Conversely, many of us believe it's better to do something and come up short than to do nothing and come up short. And, if we finish ahead by 6, we can still congratulate ourselves on making the change because it worked..

+1

He was a chemistry guy that kept the clubhouse loose and allowed us to win the division by 6 games....the "Kevin Millar" of top pitching prospects, if you will. He lead the team in "hot foots" and "shaving cream pies to the face." Regardless of his performance, without promoting him we would have collapsed from the pressure down the stretch. This one time, he put a bunch of Icy/Hot in Billy's jock strap....

These threads are most fun when you get to find out what happened...

I promoted him just after the All-Star break and ending up finishing 83-79, winning the division by 2 games.  So, yes, it was worth it.  I lost my first playoff series, but at least I gave my team the chance.

His final stat line:
16G, 113IP, 2.95 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, .243/.291/.334 , 91-26 K-BB

It will be fun to see him perform over a full season in a stacked rotation.
