NCIH $52 MIllion Draft: Pre-Mid Season Thoughts. Topic

jayharvill - I think you wasted some money on things you have too much of (assists) and not enough on things you need (rebounds) Starting lineups with rebound pcts. of approximately 30/80 are definitely below average in this league.

why did you get a SG with so many assists (Frazier) when you already had Stockton? You really needed a SF - Anderson is a great SG in this league IMO, extremely underrated (I was torn between him and Drexler), but he's not as special when you play him as a SF. After starting with Malone/Stockton your top priority probably should have been a SF who was a very good rebounder.

That said, your team is extremely efficient, and obviously you'll be one of the better defensive teams in the league. Just worried that rebounding will hurt you too much in the possession battle.

Flash and the Furious Five

  Usage% 2pt%# 3pt%# eFG% OReb% DReb% Ast% Stl% Blk%
PG 08-09 Dwyane Wade 36.4 52.2 31.3 51.6 3.2 11.6 25.4 2.7 2.2
SG 03-04 Peja Stojakovic 24 51.4 43.3 56.6 3.1 13.4 6.8 1.5 0.2
SF 07-08 Lamar Odom 16.8 56.4 27.2 54.4 7.6 21.9 11.5 1.2 1.4
PF 10-11 Zach Randolph 25.2 51.3 18.5 50.7 13.2 24.4 7.4 1.1 0.6
C   02-03 Ben Wallace 10.3 48.8 16.7 48.2 11.3 32.7 6.2 1.8 5.1

First time in the $52M league, I'm curious to see how this team does.  38.4% OReb and 104%DReb.  On the starting five, Wade is the only one who averages over 2 TO's per game. Starting five has two guys with a 100 Def rating (Wade/Wallace) two guys with a 34 def rating (Z-Bo/Peja) and Odom checks in with a 50 Def rating.  I took Pressey and Millsap in the 6th for their flexibility - both can cover 3 positions for me and have good D (Pressey 87 D rating and Millsap 90 D rating).

I don't disagree about the rebounding----hopefully Sabonis(and Kermit Washington to an extent) will help with that

I had Frazier as the best qualified SG available----which is why I chose him.   The assist rate is just a plus.   His DRB% for that season is ok, and he has decent USG and good EFG.   Only real negative with him at the 2 is he doesn't make a ton of threes.   You are right though, in that I could have gone Anderson at the two and a different SF there.

I think if I can keep the rebounding margin around -5 or so I'll still be ok...will be interesting to see.   I really need Chandler to be a beast for me.    And of course, I hope my defense helps compensate for that as well.

Do you guys want draft grades?

yes, go ahead , give us more to read .  U did a great job.

I don't get it.... "Needs scoring in Rounds 3 and 4"-
Grabbed Carter over Drexler - giving me 10 more points per and then say Drexler was the better choice?  lol.  Had I known Hill would be there in the 4th.... perhaps I would have taken Drexler instead (though I doubt it... Carter is still underrated in the current sim and Drexler is over rated a bit.  Both are usable

This is why I hate doing evals.  Its a thankless job- but appreciated by most. (Including me)

Yes, I actually like doing the evals but do see some inconsistencies in my work. The evals force you to look at all of the players which helps with not just using  "muscle memory" when picking your own players in the future.  Thanks for the appreciation. I do my best in spite of not being on that "Pantheon Level" with ash, scud uvasooner, 98average, etc., etc.

gj on the evals, man.  It's kind of bullshit that they are required of the winner, but it's always fun to read.  When you do it like you did and run commentary as the draft goes it makes it a lot easier.  I, like you, enjoy doing them.  I've even done them for a couple of leagues I wasn't even in.  The hardest part is distancing yourself from your particular style and seeing how other people are putting their teams together in ways you don't expect to work because it doesn't work for you, yet it does for them.  UVA taught me this... he always made these teams that made no sense to me, but the guy was the best I have played with in the higher cap leagues.  He always seemed to draft low turnover guys that didn't seem to be a force offensively, yet league after league, he was always near the top... I know of a couple of times where he played himself in the finals, which, to me, is the ultimate '****-you-I'm-better-than-all-of-you!'  Especially when you consider it was a draft league.

As for my team... this is a team I would have built for the old ODL.  Lately I've been addicted to high volume scorers, and lately they've been driving me nuts come playoff time.  I wanted to get back to more consistency, and the old dominant paint scorer + bombers was always what was the most successful for me.  I have lower defense than I'd like, and more minutes than I can use, but damn this is truly a Mustang team.  I'm looking forward to being disappointed lol

My team this time is kind of an experiment again.  I have seen how little defense actually has been helping in the sim so this time I wanted to focus on strong rebounding with good eFG%.  I sprinkled in a little D, but for the most part I wanted to see how an offensive squad with good rebounding would do.  I feel really good about my rebounding and assists.

That was pretty much the ticket to dominance while you were gone.  I still think it's the superior style, but it's no where as good as it used to be.

i cant wait to see how your team does malone...nash and love as the top dogs...should be fun

Anybody heard from sappy?  I hope that the eval hasn't sent him into a deep depression, drunken binge, or online porn addiction to ease the pain LOL!

I'm really inerested to see how ncih's team does...pretty sure the starting lineup hasl ike 120%+ usage, which is insane, but I love the rebounding by committee approach and there are some absolute offensive monsters on that team. LBJ + Dirk + Pippen is a pretty ridiculous first three picks.
