What is TS%?
True Shooting Percentage and is equal to Points/(FGA+FTA*.44).
Interesting - what does it ultimately tell you?  Just how good a team is likely to shoot?  Is it similar to the 2pt%# and 3pt%#?
11/28/2011 3:36 PM
It's a way of rating how efficient a player's shooting is.  This can be a good indication of a player's true worth, but it can be a bad idea to rely on this in the sim, reason being that it is heavily reliant on free throws, which almost nobody with high FTA IRL actually achieve in the sim.  So players like 87-88 Barkley (who has one of the highest TS% of all-time) end up being more highly rated (and cost more) than the actual production you'll receive.  However, players with fewer FTA like Allen, Nash & Peja often end up with as many or more FTA than they got IRL, meaning that you get more than you pay for.

PS - TS% plays heavily into the salary formula if you didn't know.

This makes guys like Shaq, Wilt & Howard more valuable because they have a lower TS% than efg% (mostly), bringing their salary down.  However you still gain the benefits of 60% efg% and tons of fouls called against your team.

This is one of the reasons why Chuck really shouldn't be considered a top 5 pick any more.

I don’t see a lot of defense being played here, and the offense is only average at best.  Good defensive rebounding and good 3 point shooting may not be enough to save this team. -0.7

mikee1

Larry Bird             Paul Pierce         Tyson Chandler                Penny Hardaway             Willis Reed        Michael Cage    Wally Szcerbiak

Do you ever begin to feel like you might be somebody’s nemesis?  I have begun to root for mikee1’s teams in the playoffs against mine just on the off chance that he has a secret lab and is plotting my doom.  I hope he doesn’t make a freeze ray or a death ray and I’m most definitely going to stay away from Penny.  (and don’t call me Captain Hammer?)  In any case, I really like this team.  Note the really low TOs here.  +5.1

Michael Jordan Donyell Marshall             Larry Nance        Chris Andersen Ryan Anderson Jose Calderone Ed Pinckney

Let me start by saying that I have a model and I draft to the model.  If you have a model, presumably you would have the best team according to your model, and that is why you drafted your team the way you did.  I don’t think my team is way better than all of the other teams out there.  I hope that it is, and if my model is perfect, it is. I fully expect that this team will expose the limitations of my model.  On the other hand, I am the defending champion, and, perhaps you can learn some things by listening to what I have to say.  ashamael has won even more that I have, and you can learn some things by listening to him.  I have.  This team is going to get dominated on the boards, but it is going to shoot so well and turn the ball over so infrequently, it just won’t matter.  Or I am wrong.  Nance was a mistake.  A small mistake, and I think I’ll be OK, but, still, a mistake.+12.1

Charles Barkley                Shawn Kemp     Mookie Blaylock              Jerry West          Clifford Ray        Ervin Johnson    Delonte West

There is a lot to like here, but I think that the team overspent on assists.  Very good TS% but a bit weak on defense, and not a lot of help for Barkley or anything.  Pretty weak on the defensive glass as well, and a lot of Turnovers.  I will be interested to see how it works out if this team runs an up-tempo with the high assists and high turnovers.  +3.3

dh555

LeBron James    Jerry Lucas          Horace Grant     Pau Gasol            Terrell Brandon                Larry Smith         Jim Les

Much like his other team, dh555 has covered all the bases.  Good usage, good rebounds, low turnovers.  The defense is a bit weak, and, if you are interested in doing it, you can probably exploit some matchups.  +5.2

ncih

Shaquille O'Neal             Ray Allen             Steve Nash         Carlos Boozer    Bill Bridges         Greg Anthony   Theo Ratliff

This team is rebound deficient on both sides of the floor and may have wasted some money on usage% and assists.  It is weak defensively as well.  Good 3 point shooting though, and for the above reasons, I might be underestimating Shaq.  -3.7

Offense average at best?  Ummm...

usg% / efg%
26.6 / 55.2
17.4 / 54.2
22.3 / 56.0 (*0.98)
15.6 / 61.1
19.6 / 58.4

You're crazy if you call that average offense.  Usage might be a smidge low (exactly 10 points if he uses the versions I posted, more if he uses a different admiral or nater), but it's enough to get the job done... and I don't think anybody comes close to his efg%.  Only weakness is his back court rebounding.  Also, after much experimentation, I've determined that defense means as much now as it did before (which is not much - only prioritize it if you have the cap for it).

Just curious, though... what's your definition of bad defense?  You've called several teams bad defensively when honestly... they are no where close to bad.  For example... bluenote's team... you said it was the worst defensively you've seen, yet when I look at it, I see 69-83-53-55-63 in the SL with an 85 rotating with the 53.  if 50 is average (and it is), anything above 50 has to be above average.  The mean of those potential starters would be 65.  That's not bad, especially at a $47M cap; in fact, I'd say that's a number to shoot for.  I'm right at 66 myself.  You call dh's team with lebron a bit weak defensively, yet he has one 50, a 71, two 80+s and a 90+.  Huh?  How's that weak (around 75 average). I'd say, at this cap level and the nature of a draft league, you're not going to see many people outside of the 60-75 range (and the ones that do probably have huge weaknesses - like your team and boards).

apple i like the non-commentary regarding my team...wouldn't want to give up any insight to an emerging nemesis! haha
Until we meet again this freeze ray is pointed at you, captain hammer.  (didn't get the reference, had to google)

Dwight Howard                Robert Parish    Cedric Maxwell                Dana Barros        Jeff Hornacek    Jamaal Magloire                John Paxson

This team is likely to have trouble on the boards, and trouble with turnovers.  On the plus side, they should shoot lights out, mostly from 2, but also from 3.  0.

banditone

Artis Gilmore    Gary Payton       Clyde Drexler    Josh Smith          Rick Barry            Connie Hawkins               Mike Gale

This team may have overspent on assists and is likely have trouble on the boards.  It should be very good on defense, but is likely to have a poor eFG%.  -1.8

ljemd

Dennis Rodman                Marcus Camby  Reggie Miller    Derek Harper    John Havlicek    Emeka Okafor   Mike Giminski

You would expect a team that selected Rodman and Camby as it’s first 2 picks to be a little light on usage…  and you’d be right, but you would also expect good rebounds and defense, and you’d be right again.+3.0

jethroeg

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar    Nate Archibald Reggie Lewis     Dan Roundfield                Rodney McCray                Bob Gross           Rick Mahorn

Another team that is going to get destroyed on the boards, but good defense may keep them near .500.  +1.6

Wilt Chamberlain            Tracy McGrady  Bill Walton         Antawn Jamison              Mark Price          Andres Nocioni                Larry Drew

This team has overspent on usage.  They may be a little weak on the offensive boards, but should be strong on the defensive side.  This is not going to be a team with a high TS%. -0.8

Moses Malone Kevin Johnson  Wes Unseld       Mike Miller        Nick Anderson  Earl Watson       Ken Bannister

I like the idea of building around Moses Malone, but this team is very weak defensively, and has too many turnovers.  They should shoot pretty well, especially from 3 point land.-2.9

didn't this team lead the league in scoring?

"17 Bill Russell D Greatest champion in the history of all professional team sports? Sure. Greatest statistics for use in a stats based game? Not so much. See comments on Mutombo. The only place Garnett belong together like this is in a heartwarming conversation/interview sometime during the 2007-08 season."

My team sucked but not b/c of Russell, (b/c my horrible odl noob build).....Russell led the league in rebounding!
