Buckley should be signed to a 5 year deal if he's reasonable right now.  That will carry him until he's 31.    He might start to fall off defensively then.
I'm a newbie and I'm confused. Why are you guys so high on Clay? Is it because of his defense? I'm looking at his rightie split and he looks like he won't be very good offensively.
Hey peanut,

Defensive SSs are such a hot commodity, and they are CRAZY hard to find if you want them to at least be an average batter. Clay Buckley won't be a spectacular bat, but he will be better than the vast majority of the starting SSs in the world. Unless someone sacrificed defense, it will be hard to find a better player.
I'm just trying to figure this out, how does my guy Naftali Torrealba stack up? I just brought him up to the majors.

He's an above average SS who has a career OPS of .797 over several seasons.   You don't find many players like him.   And, yes, his RH split is horrible but, again, he's OPS'd .797 in that world.   That is outstanding for a player with his defensive ratings.    He'd get 12m or more in the open market in most worlds.
I see that, but my question is... is his career OPS pretty much inline for a guy with his bat or is he "special". If I get a guy who has his ratings, is it logical to expect the same OPS or is he just a player that plays better than he looks?

PS Sorry to hijack your topic, I'm just trying to get better.

Worlds play differently.   I wouldn't expect those numbers but, at some point, they are what they are.   He has 2300 AB and an OPS of .797.   Even if he loses 50-70 points off that, he's still an above average SS who with a .730 OPS.   Worth the investment, IMO,

Neftali Torrealba's defense doesn't stand up.  He's a below average SS, and his bat is not much to get excited about either.  I'd be happy with his bat if his D was adequate, but as it is, he doesn't stack up.

yah if you have nothing better then Neftali currently his super cheap first 3 seasons would be ok IMO, then with his first arb see if you can trade him for a bag of balls, if not then release him.

OK so now the season has started I will keep updated posts for every 10 games of the season and let you guys know how Im doing per a 10 game stretch.

Peanut,

General rule is 80 Range, 80 Glove, 80 Arm Accuracy, 80 Arm strength (so 80/80/80/80) minimums playing SS (NO LEFTHANDERS!!)

That's a crappy SS.

Last season the 6th playoff spot had 86 wins, my goal this season is to hit the 90 win mark. Gonna be a hard feat to accomplish but maybe this team will get lucky and play well enough to reach that mark. Im gonna need 5.5 wins per every 10 games to reach the 90 win total for the season.

geez ebet, cant you see that your thread has been hijacked to talk about peanuts SS?  start a new one will you?  :)

anyways, I only suggested using the SS in question if he was your best option.  Its not like his defense is so bad that its going to kill you.  And with the money saved using this dude you can spend it on upgrades elsewhere.

Well let me try this again. First 10 games of the season we go 4-6, 11 thru 20 games we were 6-14, thru 30 games we were 10-20, thru 40 games we were 14-26, thru 50 games of the season and It not looking good we have a 18-32 record...... then lightning struck the next 10 games the Rainers go 9-1 for a 27-33 record thru the first 60 games. The next 5 games we go 4-1 and currnetly have a 31-34 record and things are starting to look a lot better then what they did when the season started and we had a 18-32 record.

Yes, yes I do. Thats when we started making our run when I set the sim to run it. I still make changes when needed but lineup wise I let the sim run it for me. Not doing to bad a job.....better then I was doing.
