i would just suggest that dealing with this stuff is one of the absolute crappiest parts of CS folks' jobs. its absolutely miserable, there is no winning or breaking even, its only a question of how much they lose. its a small staff, not like they have a lot of time for dealing with these issues, and they are highly time-intensive. but more, its just blows, there is no way to please everybody, and they have to try to be fair, can't have arbitrary rules for dealing with each circumstance in a 'common sense' way.
the circumstances here color everyone here's view of what should happen. its unlikely the criteria for removing teams, completely banning accounts, etc, account for ab being a dick and rubbing it in everyone's face. so you have to kinda look at it like, multiple teams, with no recruiting collusion - on the first offense, users get the offending teams moved with no further consequence. that's how it is, maybe you don't like that, maybe you ask them to change it, but it's where we are. so on the second offense, is that an automatic ban for all accounts? what if the user claims, however lamely, that the second account isn't even theirs, but a family member - do you still lifetime ban all accounts? its quite the escalation from penalty 1. maybe you guys would do it, and that's fine, but that isn't particularly relevant - are CS's actions in the range of reasonable? that is what matters. is your position really that the ONLY way CS can avoid being patently unreasonable, is a lifetime ban? that just seems a little... unreasonable!
if the response is 'but its ab, he's a dick, just ban him' - fine. i don't object to that. but i hope folks can put themselves in CS's shoes for a minute and understand that it is very hard for them to justify their cheating-responses based on such things. they almost have to base it off the substance of the offenses with little else, and ab's punishment here for multiple teams is at least as severe, to my knowledge, as any they have ever handed down for multiple team issues. at any # of infractions. a lifetime ban would unquestionably be inconsistent with their prior actions for these offenses... right? anyway, just another perspective i suppose. these cheating issues really suck, and i used to be a lot more black and white about how they should be dealt with, too. seble sharing his perspective on dealing with these issues at some point softened my view considerably...
