I think what  tufft is saying makes sense.

In another language maybe.

i'm still missing how every owner in hbd is 'gaming the system' by having the highest bid at the time when the free agent accepts.
i get the feeling people just don't want to 'put the work in' to be in the running to possibly get the guy(s) they're after.
i understand most of us have no lives and are on here checking our teams all day every day especially during free agency. only a select few are above all that and too busy to deal with that sort of time consumption.
they should maybe not play the game if it's too much for them.

Yeah, I've been thinking that since yesterday.   If nothing else, don't be such a dick that you couldn't get someone to check your teams for you if you're unavailable for a couple of days.   And, if you're unavailable for a couple of days due to a family emergency, don't sweat your HBD team.  YOU HAD A FAMILY EMERGENCY!!!!

how about this compromise for the lazy people out there: an ebay type bidding system. you put in your absolute highest bid amount, but the system only bids a small amount higher than the highest bid at any point until you reach your limit? if you want (and see that you've been outbid because someone put in a higher max bid than you) you can manually bid again?
o wait. that's kind of what it's like now. minus the concrete auction ending time. and the ability to literally know when the auction is gonna end.
wis could change free agency to this and there will STILL be someone who jumps in at the last second to place a giant bid and end up with the player
nevermind

On a somewhat unrelated note, anyone know what affects signing time?  I've seen some pretty sought after free agents sign almost immediately, and for not much more than their asking price.  It's rare, but it happens.

If that happened, then they weren't really that sought after.

Correct.   Good players who sign quickly have received one offer.

I didn't read through all the lunacy, but IIRC, you don't need much money to game the system. You simply make an offer to a "$3M-$6M" FA for $10M, then withdraw it immediately. Move on to the next player. Repeat.

So, (at least) one of those arguments up there is invalid and false. I think we can mostly agree that quite a few things need some work in HBD still. Shame they seem to have given up on improving the product much. Why people fight others that are constantly thinking and attempting to initiate dialogue in order to facilitate improvement is beyond me. Progress is good. It's not a perfect product. There's no harm in improving it. There's no harm in discussing improving it. The only harm comes from ******* who refuse to accept their knowledge and opinion isn't any sort of "be-all-end-all" and that there is always room for imrovement.

Also a part of the problem is those who refuse to participate in an honest, intellectual discussion and resort to the sort of childishness, ignorance and sociopathic behavior on these boards that we're all used to seeing.

i think if something was a 'big enough problem' that wis might do something about it as they did with coach hiring. yes it was a long time ago when they were more interested in feedback to improve the game, but still.
i think the point is there's not a giant demand for improvements to the way free agency works. some people may not think it's the 'best' way for it to work, but a majority of users just deal with what we have. and it's usually the owners who feel they have gotten screwed out of a player who feel that it's not fair.

sergei...I'll admit if I was on the opposite side of the equation, and scooped a FA at the last second, I wouldn't be complaining.

But I would still call it an unfair process.
