Game 67: Ryan Dempster and Homer Bailey combine on a 7-hit shutout of the Bootleggers as Montreal scores a 7-0 victory. Matt Diaz homers twice and drives in four runs for the Spectres.

Game 68: Montreal outhits Chicago 10-6 but commits three errors which lead to two unearned runs... a crucial mistake in a 4-3 loss.

Game 69: Chicago takes the series with a 4-2 win in the finale behind Jon Lester, who strikes out 13 Spectres in a complete game appearance. Yovani Gallardo's winning streak ends at three.

The Spectres host San Diego next.

Game 70: The Spectres draw seven walks to complement nine hits and get home runs from Dan Uggla (his 20th) and Jose Lopez to beat the Conquistadors 10-4. Aaron Cook lasts through only four innings, so Dallas Braden gets the win in relief.

Game 71: The Spectres fall victim to Ubaldo Jimenez, losing 7-3. Only an eighth-inning three run homer by Jose Lopez prevents a shutout.

Game 72: Nick Markakis commits two errors in the fourth inning and the Spectres capitalize with seven unearned runs. That's more than enough for Ryan Dempster, who tosses a complete game 4-hitter in an 8-2 win.

We now travel to St. Louis to face the Central Division leaders, the Cthulu.,
8/5/2011 11:32 PM (edited)
Game 73: St. Louis looks every bit as good as their 50-22 record would indicate as they shell Gavin Floyd and a succession of relievers for 18 hits in a 10-1 rout of the Spectres.

Game 74: Yovani Gallardo throws seven innings of 1-hit baseball, but loses out on a win when Jason Frasor coughs up a run in the bottom of the ninth to knot the score at one. In the 12th, Montreal finally finds some offense, scoring four runs before a man is out, and wins it 5-1.

Game 75: Jose Lopez, Matt Diaz, and Alfonso Soriano hit home runs for Montreal, and Aaron Cook improves to 6-3 as the Spectres top St. Louis 5-3 to take the series.

We head home to host the hated 69ers.
8/6/2011 11:25 PM (edited)
Game 76: Frisco's Russell Branyan wipes out a 2-0 deficit with a seventh-inning pinch-hit home run, but the Spectres have the last laugh when Dan Uggla launches a two-out, three-run shot in the bottom of the ninth for a walkoff 5-2 victory.

Game 77: Montreal manages only six hits, three of them singles by Carl Crawford, and suffers a 5-4 loss to Frisco.

Game 78: The Niners take a 3-0 lead in the first inning and the Spectres still trail 4-2 after eight, but put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth to steal a 5-4 victory from Frisco and win the series.

We finish the first half at Milwaukee.
8/7/2011 11:49 PM (edited)
Game 79: Mevlin Mora's eighth-inning error leads to four unearned runs off Brandon Lyon when Miguel Tejada blasts a two-out grand slam that ties the game at four. The Spectres grab the lead back in the ninth however, with Asdrubal Cabrera singling home Carl Crawford after a steal of second. Jason Frasor navigates a tricky ninth (with a single and an error putting two men on base) to earn his 17th save.

Game 80: Carl Crawford and Michael Cuddyer have four hits each, but even that is not enough to offset a disastrous five-run first inning off starter Aaron Cook followed by a two-home run, four runs allowed relief stint by Homer Bailey. Montreal makes a valiant effort, but falls short 10-9.

Game 81: Dan Uggla's eighth-inning error helps Milwaukee tie the game, and Ben Zobrist ends it with a two-run homer in the 11th as Milwaukee wins 6-4.

The Spectres enter the Break with a 41-40 record, three games back of New York in the NL East.

Jason Frasor is the only Spectre named to the 2009 NL All Star team.
8/8/2011 11:48 PM

We start the second half at home, facing Houston.

Game 82: Ryan Dempster pitches a beauty into the eighth and the bullpen finishes things off as the Spectres beat the Lone Stars 3-1. Jason Frasor pitches the ninth for his 18th save.

Game 83: Montreal's three-run first goes to waste as they allow two solo homers to Willy Aybar and a three-run blast to Brian McCann, losing 5-4.

Game 84: A close game goes Montreal's way as Ryan Doumit's two-run homer gives Yovani Gallardo just enough cushion for a 3-2 victory. Gallardo strikes out 10 in eight innings; Jason Frasor has a shaky ninth but holds the lead.

Interleague sets with Minnesota, Colorado, and Oakland are next.

8/9/2011 11:46 PM (edited)
Game 85: Montreal ties the score at six with three eighth-inning singles off Francisco Cordero, then wins it in the 10th with some help by the Fizz. Julio Lugo's error puts the lead run on base, and a wild pitch moves him to second. Ramon Hernandez singles and Montreal wins it 7-6.

Game 86: The Spectres are shut down by Jason Marquis, who beats them 7-1 with a complete-game 5-hitter. AJ Burnett is awful again, and falls to 3-8 this season.

Game 87: In Colorado, the Spectres limit the Rockies to three runs while busting out the bats to the tune of 14 hits and eight runs in a five-run win. Ryan Dempster improves to 7-7; Matt Diaz and Alfonso Soriano each hits a homer.

Game 88: After throwing six shutout innings at the visiting Rockies, Gavin Floyd tires in the seventh. Following him is a string of disastrous appearances by the bullpen as the Rockies explode for 10 runs over the final three frames to rout the Spectres 10-2.

Game 89: Jason Fraso suffers his fourth blown save, allowing a two-run homer to Albert Pujols in the ninth. Montreal bounces back, however; Matt Diaz leads off the 10th with a pinch-hit home run, and the Spectres add one more run to the score. Brandon Lyon strikes out the side to preserve the 7-5 win.

Game 90: Montreal takes Oakland into extra innings for the second straight game, but with a less happy ending... the Pachyderms score in the 13th and then hold on for a 5-4 victory.

The Spectres head to Cincinnatii.
8/11/2011 11:43 PM (edited)
Game 91: Seth Smith hits a three-run double in the first, adds an RBI single in the third, and a two-run homer in the seventh to drive in six runs as the Spectres outpace the Stingers 9-5 in the series opener. AJ Burnett lasts six and improves to 4-8.

Game 92: Ramon Hernandez homers and is one of three Spectres with three hits as an offensive explosion propels Montreal to a 13-5 win.

Game 93: Alfonso Soriano and Ryan Doumit each hit home runs and Gavin Floyd throws six strong innings as Montreal tops Cincinnati 5-2.

Next up, we travel west to face San Diego.
8/13/2011 6:52 AM (edited)
Game 94: Alfonso Soriano's error leads to three unearned runs in the seventh off Craig Breslow, and the Conquistadors hold off a late Spectre rally to claim the series opener, 6-5.

Game 95: Aaron Cook throws seven shutout innings and Alfonso Soriano hits a two-run homer as the Spectres shut out the Conquistadors 3-0.

Game 96: AJ Burnett is abused by the San Diego offense and the Spectres are three-hit by Ubaldo Jimenez in a blowout 10-1 loss.

The Spectres host Chicago next.
8/13/2011 11:28 PM (edited)
Game 97: The Spectres commit three errors, leading to three unearned Bootlegger runs, and they strand too many runners on base, dropping the opener to Chicago 7-5.

Game 98: Montreal takes advantage of another team's miscue for a change, scoring four unearned runs off Derek Lowe after a dropped foul popup by Justin Upton. Dan Uggla caps that inning with a three-run homer. Homer Bailey pitches three scoreless innings in relief of Gavin Floyd to earns a save in an 8-1 victory.

Game 99: Yovani Gallardo allows only four hits over eight innings and the Spectres score four unearned runs for the second straight game, this time off of three Bootlegger errors, to win the series finale 5-1.

Clinging to a one-game lead in the NL East, the Spectres head to Los Angeles to face the West leaders.
8/14/2011 11:22 PM (edited)
Game 100: The Spectres collect nine hits, five of them from the first two batters in the order, but manage only one run off Joe Saunders and a trio of Glover relievers, losing the series opener 5-1.

Game 101: Michael Cuddyer hits two solo home runs and Seth Smith adds one as well, but the Spectres score no other runs and fall back into a tie for the division lead as they lose 4-3 while New York is winning.

Game 102: Michael Cuddyer hits his third home run in the last two games, Ryan Doumit blasts a two-run pinch-hit homer in the ninth, and the Montreal bullpen throws 3.2 scoreless innings as the Spectres salvage the finale, 7-3.

Montreal returns home to face the Central-leading Cthulu of St. Louis.

8/15/2011 7:00 PM
Game 103: Gavin Floyd has another good outing and the Spectre bullpen throws another three scoreless innings as Montreal tops St. Louis 4-1 in the series opener.

Game 104: Yovani Gallardo strikes out nine while walking none in a six-inning outing, but is a hard-luck loser as Clayton Kershaw limits the Spectres to five hits over eight innings. St. Louis evens the series with a 4-2 victory.

Game 105: The Spectres get homers from Ryan Doumit and Seth Smith, and another three-inning blank from the bullpen, to beat St. Louis 4-3.
