touche; I had no idea. Time to re-plan

NoCountryForOldMen?

round1-Bill Russell....i know rebounding will be important so when the opportunity to grab a top 5 rebounder came up i had to take advantage....his numbers are jacked up due to mins played and the era, but hes at the top of the list in rp48 and dreb%....fg% sucks but his fp48 is off the charts for a center with 95 def and 3.9bl%....like the low usage and the fact that he even drops a few dimes....a specialist, but a good one in an extremely important area

round2-Spencer Haywood....was really hoping kg or lucas fell here....never been a fan of his but i wanted to lock up rebounders before my long wait for pick 3...there were better rebounders available but i liked his scoring and defense...then i saw his fp48 and that sealed the deal...with my first two picks i was able to lock up 45 mins each of good defense and rebounding and only 5.4 fp48 between them.....i do wish his fg% was a little higher tho

round3-Jerry West....at this point i decided i was going to go for a half court defensive team that was going to win the ft battle....west fit in perfectly with his 90 d, 3.0fp48, and his 631 ftas...turnovers are high but he has a 24.8ast% and the half court style should help with that

round4-Mookie Blaylock....with west and haywood not shooting a high % from the field i needed a pg with a high ast%....mookie has a 32.8% and a good a/t ratio...works for me...but what make this my favorite pick of the draft was that he plays amazing defense for a pg....90 d, 3.2 stl%, 11.0drb% and only 2.4fp48...the obvious downfall is that hes a crappy shooter

round5-Connie Hawkins....needed a 3 that could rebound and had marques johnson and elton brand in mind....johnson went quickly but brand kept falling and i was 1 pick away from getting him..so close...i didnt want hawk because i has just drafted him in bowis and he doesnt play defense....but i did need a 3rd scorer in the starting 5 and he can get me 20ppg on 50%+ shooting.... plus the 830ftas and 17.9drb% were enough to offset the lack of defense in my mind...adds assists too which is a plus with my teams fg%

round6-Sidney Moncrief....needed a backup guard with this pick and sidney stood right out....tough to find a 90d guard that can do what he does at this point in the draft....then i saw that his ftap48 was outstanding and knew he was my guy...good scorer with a 52.4fg%, and adds some rebounds and assists too

round7-Jayson Williams....needed a backup for the bigs and was glad to get this guy so other teams couldnt use his higher min dominant offreb seasons against me...im using his mini 94-95 season...12 mins a game with a 94d and 19.1/26.8 rebounding numbers....hes my only guy that hurts me with fouls but the rebounding is so good i can live with it

ive never built a team like this before...i dont have any 3s and my efg% is pretty low...but i think we can be successful by winning ugly....we play great d, rebound very well, and dont foul while getting to the line alot ourselves...good balance with west, haywood, hawkins, and moncrief doing the scoring and the other 3 doing the dirty work......not really sure what to expect from this team.....could be great....could finish dead last

David Robinson C (84 DEF) - great anchor but needs help on the boards

Kobe Bryant SG (90 DEF) - does everything you want from a SG

David Lee PF/SF (91 DEF) - modest usage with nice versatility and good boards (27% Def)

Lamar Odom SF/PF (84 DEF) - modest usage with decent dimes (18%)

Jason Terry PG (45 DEF) - hedged here to get some 3s and be compatible w/ starters, but I may have erred in seeking too much scoring at the expense of defense - D- grade is appropriate when viewed in isolation, but I hope it will turn out to be a solid B.

Antonio McDyess - PF (93 DEF) - poor man's David Lee stat-wise but strong defender

Ron Harper - SG/SF (73 DEF) - poor man's Kobe Bryant stat-wise

TEAM: Looked for more usage and scoring than in past due to a very poor ODL season. Dimes spread between 4 positions (Robinson, Kobe/Harper, Odom, Terry) so less need for a pure PG. Need a good defender as backup PG to play big minutes against strong scoring guard tandems. Otherwise tried to find 6th and 7th men who duplicated their respective starters' strengths and weaknesses because of an inability to control the substitution pattern.

Troy Murphy SF/PF (96 Def) - Gives threes, Reb. Def. and a perfect second scoring option

Tom Boerwinkle C (96 Def) Great Reb. Blocks and steals a bit. Ast a plus.

Joel Przybilla PF/C (96 Def) Great Reb. Steals a bit. Low to's. High eFG%. Put-Back machine

Andrei Kirilenko SF/PF (96 Def) Blocks and steals. Great Bench Player

Kareem - center-piece
Red Robbins - helps me compete on the boards, doesnt turn the ball over or foul - relatively low usage
Marques - mid-range scorer, good blocks and rebounding for SF, 89 d
Nick Anderson - perimeter utility man - 400+ 3pas at 39% - decent D, boards, asts, stls, blk %s
Chauncey - more perimeter scoring 400+ 3pas at 43% - ast% 30+

Rondo - D, distro and boards - will push Chauncey to the SG on occasion in order to get full minutes
Moon - D, boards and stls/blks for SF - will occasionally push Marques to PF to get minutes

Tim Duncan - Known as the Stone Buddha, he's the rock of the team. Using the most expensive season. Was a really tough choice between him and Artis with the 24th pick.

Shawn Marion - Don't think I need to justify this pick but there were a bunch of other guys on my radar at this point: Kobe, Kidd, Hill. Using the highest $ season.

Mo Cheeks - wanted an assist guy who could play D and shoot high % w/ low usage and TOs. Kind of a strange pick and I might've been able to get him later but didn't want to chance it. $8+ mil salary was nice, too.

Brandon Roy - This is the pick that I really thought was too soon. For some reason I thought one of Marques Johnson, Thurmond, or Willis Reed would come back but they didn't. Kicked myself up until the next round when I got...

Elton Brand - this made up for the Roy pick in my mind even though I'm not using his $8 mil season. I like what he brings to the table, which includes 52 efg% and 14 oreb%.

Chris Kaman - 96 D, a bunch of boards (29% dreb) and a few points and blocks to boot. Not many orebs but I really needed someone with a high dreb at this point.

Damon Jones - his 3s and 72% perimeter hopefully will space the floor enough.

Notes: This is my first kfunk league. Tough draft! Between my 7 guys I have about 20400 minutes w/ about 2 mil on the table. Debated not using Jones' top season but need the perimeter scoring. Brand's most expensive season had to be dropped.

Strengths: efg%, low TOs and relatively low PFs and.. team chemistry?

Weaknesses: Would like more assists. And boards and FTs.

Prediction: about .500 on the season but I hope I can do better through coaching but I doubt it.
