OT-Nebraska to Big Ten Topic

I'm interested to see where Kansas hoops ends up. Has to rank as one of the top 5 programs in the nation. Could they maintain that level in the MWC with 10:00 tip times on the road against the likes of San Diego State or Boise State?

I could see some of the Big 12 forced defectors (Kansas, K-State, Baylor, etc.) end up in Conference USA. I do think Kansas would be a good fit for the Big 10, contingent upon their academic reputation (which I honestly don't know).

Kansas isn't any worse academically than Nebraska, are they? Man, I'd love to see KU in the Big Ten. I would've have to imagine they're scared shitless at the prospect of getting stuck playing hoops in the MWC.

Nebraska has the most Academic All-Americans in the nation

Good article about the academic profiles of the potential Big Ten suitors:

Kansas and Nebraska are tied at #96, which is behind all 11 current Big 10 teams.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you're a Nebraska fan.

No question that Nebraska's overall academics are behind normal Big Ten standards, my only point was that Kansas' were pretty much in line with Nebraska's -- so if NU wasn't a problem for the Big Ten, KU shouldn't really be, either.

Aren't Kansas and Kansas State tied together legislatively? Meaning if you take one, you take both. If KU can get that changed I'm guessing they'd be a bit more attractive to other conferences.

You are correct. And KSU isn't a member of AAU, and the Big Ten only takes AAU members, so it's not going to happen.

Based on a TV deal in the works that could pay upwards of $25 million per year, Texas is leaning toward staying in a 10-team Big 12 for the foreseeable future, Orangebloods.com has reported, citing sources familiar with negotiations.

Texas was meeting Monday with the other remaining nine schools in the Big 12 about a TV deal included in a plan put together by Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe that would keep the league intact with its current programs, according to multiple reports.

Texas stands to earn between $20 million and
$25 million annually in television revenue in the reworked deal, including money from its own network, according to Orangebloods.com.

The Longhorns network figures to generate between $3 million and $5 million, according to the report. Because the Big 12 has unequal revenue sharing, the deal will mean more money for Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, who all would receive at least $20 million annually from the new deal.

The other seven schools in the Big 12 would make between $14 million and $17 million, doubling what they currently receive in TV revenue.

Part of those Big 12 projections would likely include "adjustments" from television partners as well as future contracts that were more on par with the contracts of other conferences, the source said.

Really hope UT decides to stay.

Why any of the other seven schools would agree to stay on board under an agreement where they'd earn less than schools they are in direct competition with is beyond me.

Heck, if I was Oklahoma, I think I'd balk at this deal simply because there's very little justification for Texas to be making 20 percent more than the Sooners, especially when you add the fact that the deal allows Texas to also set up its own network, further increasing revenue for the Longhorns by roughly $5 million/year after a 3-year setup period (per published reports).

I see what you're getting at, but all the other teams know the reason they're even seeing the money they are seeing is because of Texas.

This deal makes sense for everyone in the conference, excluding A&M because of their SEC offer.
Agreed -- (a) this is better than the other options for most of them and (b) without UT, this offer isn't even possible.
