Boxing - Sugar Ray Robinson
Baseball - Willie McCovey (I think he would break all the records), Satchel Paige. Useless to bring back Ruth - he wouldn't do the training anyway.
Football - Gayle Sayers and Jim Brown - the all-time backfield.
Basketball - gotta aghree with pinotfan - Wilt Chamberlain
Golf - should be abolished anyway
Tennis - men's: who cares, women's: doesn't matter, no one would beat the Williams sisters

Football...first off, I'd return the game back to it's origin, Rugby, then bring back Jonah Lomu from his prime and watch him crush egos like corn flakes.

Actually, I may have to rethink Chamberlain.  Bring him into today's game, where guards can drive the lane with impunity and anything above breathing on them (which is a penalty) is considered a Flagrant Foul, and Wilt would foul out of every game.  So if I can amend the premise, Chamberlain is my choice with all of today's advancements but played under pre-Jordan rules.

BASEBALL - Kirby Puckett
BASKETBALL - Magic Johnson
BOXING - Joe Louis (if in his prime, could've beaten Ali)

my true basketball choice is wilt but I really think his power game would be very successful today..esp rebounding..i picked Oscar because I want to see how his finesse game would translate..i see him as a shooting guard..interestingly bronxchheer chose walt frazier who was my other top choice...he was way ahead of his time...wilt was a smart player and he would restrain himself..he never fouled out and even if he fouled more now he would be careful. under any rules.

Also, you have to take into consideration the legendary "party" status of Wilt and his famous conquests off the court.  He'd be a great guy to party with!

there are probably a lot of wild crazy stories about baseball players.
i guess the all timer is the crygenic freezing of ted williams after he died and later his head got separated from his body.

i remember when the phillies mgr was attacked after the first game and called the stupidist guy in baseball...he took out the phillies ace who has a history of injury in 2 prior seasons after about 60 pitches.
as it turns nola has been an injury free cy young candidate.....the phillies are the surprise team in baseball..in the playoff hunt...and most interesting...
kaplan manages as if he is managing a sim team...based on last season nola probably would have had a 60-75 pitch count in the first game....if it was sim....it is very interesting......

i cant say that i follow real baseball much really for years.....i cant watch more then 10 minutes before im bored.....i have zero interest in teams not the home team.....i defer to others.....is mlb thriving or are there reasons to worry about the future of mlb.....
in phillies land they made a decision years ago to put the best announcing team on the radio......their tv announcing team is average at best...i cant understand the rationale.....i might have more interest if they had the best announcers on tv.
