If I promote http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=4529036 to the Majors, will that detrimentally affect his development?  On the one hand, I expect he would benefit from the better rated hitting coach.  On the other hand, facing tougher pitchers may reduce his stats.  If he performs relatively poorly, do his ratings progress at the same rate as if he were performing better in AAA?

Scott Davis should be proof that development does not get stunted in the Majors.

Spent the entire season on the ML roster.  Progressed 5 points in control and each of his splits.

That's impressive.  I note he has a high makeup rating.  Could be an exception?  Have you had more than that one player experience similar progression?

I don't usually bring up players with only two years of development.  He was an exception for me in that respect as he was ML ready and better than my other options.

Promoting players to the ML will not stunt growth if they play. The most important factor in development is playing time. So don't call him up to be a bench warmer, that will hurt his growth.

You could actually make the argument that, playing time being equal, a player may develop better at the ML level because he'll get the benefit of better coaches than the ones that will be in the minors.

Also, if a player has low patience, he could take a hit if you demote him back down to the minors after he's been up to the bigs. So basically, if you plan on playing the guy regularly and not demoting him, there's no harm to his development if he goes up to the show.

Thanks.  I promoted him.  The experiment begins!
