What I don't understand Topic

Coaches that say they are looking for a #4 or 5 starter/

I don't understand this.

I'm always looking for the best pitcher you will trade me.

Heck, my Texas Team in Doubleday....My #5 starter won 18 games last season.

Am I wrong in thinking this?

Its logical to think they want a Rick Porcello rather than a Justin Verlander because of cost. In money and/or prospects

Eff Rick Porcello.....who doesn't want Justin Verlander? I'll give my left nut to get a Justin Verlander!

Mitch, have you ever said you were looking for a #5 starter?

I've said that. I usually phrase it as "middle f the rotation" because it lets them know what you are willing to give up. It's so you only get offers worth your while.

Are you telling me you don't want Justin Verlander?  Or are you telling me that you think someone will make a more reasonable offer to you because you said you were looking for a middle rotation starter?

Five stud starting pitchers don't really give you that much of a benefit in the post-season.  If you can get away with three studs and an average 4 and/or 5 during the regular season to make the playoffs, that's good enough.  A fourth or fifth stud starter provides diminishing returns come playoff time.

The latter.  I usually have in mind what I want to give up in a deal, and if it's not a top prospect or player I don't expect a stud starter.  So I communicate that so people don't think I'm being ridiculous.

Isn't it just as silly to post "Looking for a stud pitcher/hitter?"    Aren't we all?

If I have 3m cap space and no worthy prospects I'm not getting a Verlander. Get it now? What's the point in asking for one if you cannot afford one?

You would be surprised how many idiots want far more than they can even give up......

The real question is: Can you offer your left nut in a HBD trade?
