Staying safe isn't going to be an easy task for a lot of people, at least it's looking that way.

Very windy and cold in Columbus, OH.
Expecting gusts up to 35-40 mph I believe.

It's amazing how far inland a severe impact from a hurricane can travel. Sure, you see some storms and other effects from hurricanes hundreds of miles inland a lot, but for this many people who are this far inland to be impacted, it has to be a phenomenal storm.

From what I know, traveling far inland really isn't that difficult for a storm; Katrina didn't lose any intensity after traveling deep into MS and was still a tropical depression when it hit TN. In the case of Sandy, it's pathing is the problem. Almost all storms travel North Northeast in the Atlantic, missing most of the northeast region. Sandy on the otherhand, is going straight through Atlantic City and the Philly area.

As for staying safe, stay inside, close all the windows, and if necessary, ducttape the windows that you feel are vulnerable.

My power has flickered out for a moment maybe 5 times this afternoon. Expecting to lose power before too long... never fear my wis friends though because I have a portable something or other I can't name correctly that works as a remote internet source so I'll use it for a few minutes to get on and quickly game plan tomorrow. In all seriousness though, I hope everyone stays safe!

Not everyone has smart phones and/or car chargers.

Personally, I have a car charger but hate smart phones - too much extra cost for services that I wouldn't use enough to make it worth it.

make friends with someone who has one?  neighbors? family members?  if you're addicted enough to WIS you shouldn't have any trouble!

My power was flickering about 30min earlier, but now is fine. ConEd reports that lower Manhattan and Brooklyn will be hardest hit and will suffer power outage, should tide/wave achieve the projected height of 12 feet.
