Starting to play around with depth chart strategy more and would like some of those who are experts at manipulating depth charts to tell me how the following would play out; this is in order of "slot one"/"slot two"/"slot three"/"slot four"

Pg: A/D/E/G
Sg: B/D/F/G
Sf: C/D/G/E

On thought:

By having D backup all 3 positions, he'll  come in whenever the first starter gets tired or in foul trouble. That can be a problem

EXAMPLE
D comes in at PG, making him ineligible to back up SG or SF. That moves F and G up to 2nd string. If they are weak players,  you could be giving them more playing time than you want. .

Also, if all three postions sub at the same time, you're letting the computer decide where D plays. What if he's a much better PG than SG or SF?

my notion is always to have the top guy at each pos back up that pos, mabye be third or 4th on the other pos.

These are the players. Shank has a promised start. None of my posts are fast enough to make a showing at SF.

Reames is A, Feldman is B, Shank(with the promised start) is C. Buckley(don't want him starting due to stamina in the press) is D. Littlefield, Goddard and Parisi are E,F,G. Want to maximize the time Buckley is on the court without starting him(stamina).

I've never had a player be the primary backup for 3 positions. I often do it for 2 positions. My initial thought is he will end up playing 1 position (the one where the starter has the lowest Sta) the most and if there is a large gap in stamina between the highst st rating and lowest then he'll play that position the second most simply because when the very high ST guy is ready to go out the low ST guy will be ready to go back in and the backup will just shift to the high ST guys position.

So, a/b/blank/c does ...

It will alternate between a and b and only go to c if one of those two isn't available?

Pg: A/D/blank/F
Sg: B/D/blank/G
Sf: C/E/blank/F

How about that one.

And while at it ...
PF: H/J/K/L
C : I/J/K/L

Having a blank only matters if the other positions using the same players DON'T have a blank.  Very simplified version:

Option 1:
PG: A/B/C/Blank
SG: D/B/C/Blank

Option 2:
PG: A/B/C/Blank
SG: D/B/Blank/C

In both cases you have the same 4 players taking care of all the guard minutes.  In both cases you think B is a better player than C, so he'll get more minutes if you don't basically max out the minutes on all 4.  BUT in option 1 if both of your starting guards are out of the game, the computer will basically randomly assign B and C (if B has already come in he'll stay at whichever position he's already in, if they come in at the same time it's either a coinflip or some logic attempts to determine which alignment is closer, but I think much closer to coinflip).  In option 2 you've guaranteed that when B and C are both in the game together C will play PG and B will play SG.  But there's no difference between what you offered above:

PG: A/D/Blank/F
SG: B/D/Blank/G
SF: C/E/Blank/F

and

PG: A/D/F/blank
SG: B/D/G/blank
SF: C/E/F/blank

So any way to get largely a three man rotation with the fourth only going in where none of the three are ready?

Either Option 1 or Option 2 above would achieve that.  Option 2 just allows you to decide which guy plays where when both backups are in.

Good point dahs.
