deciphering the recruiting responses Topic

I've put in a little effort on a recruit, a few phone calls, and the recruit dropped from D2 to D3. The recruit never said that they wouldn't play for me, or anything. Then I decide it's time to bite the bullet, and that I wasn't going to find a better recruit so I threw a home visit and a scholarship offer to the recruit. At the next cycle, this was their response:

"If I have to give you an answer, I'd have to say no, but I just can't decide yet. I need more time. I'm sure you understand, right coach?"

And the recruit has no one that they are currently liking over my school. Is this a message that there is someone else in on this recruit and that the recruit is waiting to choose someone? Or, is this likely a message that this recruit has an irrational dislike of my school?

That scholarship message simply means you haven't done enough yet to get them to a yes. Toss some more effort that way and he'll come around next cycle most likely.
