inform of redshirt - will he take it as soph? Topic

Hi,

I have a guy I'm recruiting who I'd like to redshirt, but I'm already redshirting a sophomore on the team.  If I inform him of redshirt during recruiting (which I've never tried) and then he joins the team, does anyone know if he'll still take the redshirt as a soph? Anyone tried that?

Also, thoughts on how much effort it takes to overcome the negative of the inform of redshirt? This is in DII.

just as promises are binding only freshman year, likewise the inform of redshirt button

I dont think there is a general answer to how much effort is needed to overcome the effect - because I think the negative effect - at least in DI - depends.  Some players dont mind RS as much as a matter of personality.  Also, experience tells me that when I am recruiting a guy who is thrilled to hear from my school he gets less ****** by the RS button than does a guy who is at our level or a reach

Thanks for the reply.  I had gone ahead and informed him and have just learned that "inform of redshirt" is one of those irrevocable actions. A cautionary tale? We'll see.  I will update in his sophomore year with info on whether he takes it (assuming I still get him)

you can undo it with "inform NOT red shirt" - BUT that makes it impossible to just try a redshirt after he enrols
