OT: What game would you want WIS to make? Topic

I get what your saying and can see how/why you feelthat way.  I also agree it is unfortunate that there isnot someone with as much invested in this anymore.  In my opinion this could be the greates sports webiste out there if handled and promoted correctly.
on a more important note, welcome back! i completely share your optimism for the game in theory. its really a fantastic concept. its not original, obviously, there have been simulation/coaching driven video games for a long time. but the application here just makes so much sense, its such a critical twist, to go from playing sim coaches only to playing human coaches. i think the internet makes the simulation sports class of games a vastly bigger market. there are something like 35 million fantasy sports players just in the US and Canada. i personally cant believe that less than 1% of those guys would be interested in a game like this, in their sport of choice. if you created a single game and captured 1% of 1% of the fantasy sports population, you'd have a bigger user base for that game than WIS has ever had for any of its games, i think (its kind of close, but i think thats accurate, when you take into account the avg # of teams per user).

Has anyone seen or tried this CBB game by Wolverine Studios? After reading this thread I googled recruiting sim games (to see if there was anything not mentioned in this thread) and came across it. Seems ridiculously expensive (though I suppose its a one-time fee, so thats the difference there), and is not interactive, but looks like it may have a somewhat similar structure. Thoughts?

Not sure if posting links is against the rules, so I'll let you google the studio name for now...

Th best idea on here is the on the philly did not mention and that is HD to pro leagues where users will own the pro team and draft the players from HD etc I had mentioned this a couple nyears back as well as many others have and I think the demand for it is there. Its one of the few additions in the game that would be a major overhaul and actually be worth it. They would have to tweak things a bit, like the length of the NBA/ NFL season to match with HD/GD, but it would great if they did it. The other problem is WIS really needs to up their customer base to make it worth it which brings me to the 2nd issue.

Damnit FOX sports needs to start marketing this game better. There are only a couple things that draw people here, and its not going to be fantasy sports. I think I found the site because I had a discussion with someone over which NCAAF team was better, 01 Miami Hurricanes or 94 Cornhuskers (personally I'm with Miami) and somehow i found the sim matchup thing. Thats when I noticed the dynasty tab and I'm a huge fan of dynasty simulations (Play NCAA  Football every year). I wanted to try GD first, but their were no worlds opening at the time or something and HD had one open. Busted out my FREEHD and never left. This is easily one of the best sports sims out there and FOX is sitting on this site with the potential to make a lot of money, but I just don't know if they know what they have. I will be disappointed if this game ever shuts down.
this is really so hard to do... you have to have an exact correlation between NBA and HD seasons, NBA and HD worlds. ive spent a lot of time planning out a sim, to the point of being able to produce a halfway decent box score with plans for designing a complete game around it, and i always like the idea of an NBA game on top. working through the details, i cant make it work, and i dont think its something i would ever take on. given how easy it is to like something as a theoretical idea, compared to actually doing it, and given my passion for the subject... if i cant make it work even in my head, i think there is zero chance of WIS being able to make it work, even if they wanted to.
it seems to me that it would be workable, just at different speeds... Either you speed up the NBA game to 3x NCAA speed (or whatever is necessary-- we all know NBA regular season games mean bupkis), or you have the NBA draft be tied to HD players, but otherwise unrelated. The HD draft status would then be theoretical (and also prevent you from drafting your own scrubs to up your prestige), and the players could still move through.

Doing the professional thing is really hard.  I tried to make an outline last year, but it still had lots of holes.  I think it could be done but it wouldn't mirror reality too well.  For instance we couldn't equal the NBA season in games played (we play less games in HD too than most top D1 teams).  Still it's a cool thought and should be at least considered if Fox wants to make a concerted effort towards dynasty games.
Link to my outline

wronoj, this is along the lines of what I was thinking as well. Just shorten the nba season to match HD. I would even be in favor of a shorter playoff format, maybe even something similar to HD's NT, or some way to speed it up. It would take some thought, but the format could be done. I just think the idea of being able to draft some of these guys and build a team is pretty cool. Also, it would be a nice change of pace from this whole recruiting thing. If a coach sucks, he will get the #1 pick for a couple seasons and eventually get fired if he does not improve. A coach will not have to be a good recruiter to succeed, but he will still have to be a good coach and a talent evaluator of some sort.

that overcomes one barrier - although IMO its overly restrictive - having to have NBA worlds line up with HD worlds exactly. further, what, you have to make a 1/day and 2/day version no matter what? kind of sucks.

anyway it also forces a 1 to 1 correlation between NBA worlds and HD worlds. with an NBA game having presumably around 32 teams, i cant see that working. its just too restrictive. from a business standpoint, you never want to create a situation like that, where if you have 10 NBA worlds but demand for 15, you cant create them.

its just a logistical nightmare. i like the idea, but i think an NBA game would be approximately just as fun without HD recruits being the actual draftees. what difference does it really make? its kind of cool, if you play in the world that links up to your HD world, but if not, it adds nothing. i really just dont think the work is worth the effort.

there are ways to get around some of this stuff... allow N NBA worlds to use the same draft picks, etc... but again, just cant see it being worth the very substantial amount of effort. i agree its a cool idea, thought about how to make it work if i ever made a college basketball game, but it just didnt seem to be a sensible endeavor to me.

i bought the wolverine college basketball sim before i started playing wis hd (2007). i don't know if they've upgraded the game or not - but when i played, it was only on your (my) pc and only had 1 non-sim team (yours, or in this case - mine).
like most everyone else on this forum - i think wis hd is the best out there, warts and all.

just wish they'd try to get rid of the warts.....

I played College Baseball and would really enjoy the chance to try and build a team up to get to Omaha
