First ever post here, though playing for a while.  My good buddy, who has played with more success than me, says to play guys based on home/away splits as season wears on.  My early impression from looking at my teams is that it's not consistent from season to season.  Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

RH/LH splits are a better way to make adjustments. 

If you really want to micromanage, and you have realistic bench options, you could manouver your lineup based on park factors and the strengths/weaknesses of your opponent's starting pitcher. I don't think there's much value in just away vs home though.

I use this more often.

I go by ratings early in the year and splits once there is enough of a sample to go on, and the L/R ratings of the opposing pitcher. As the season progresses I look at the opposing SP splits and take that into account. Sometimes they are way off what ratings would suggest. The only time I look at H/A is in setting up my rotation for a playoff series. By then, I have a pretty good idea as to who's better at home or away and proceed accordingly if there is a significant difference which sometimes there is. Every season is different. One thing seems to happen a lot in HBD and that is when a player is having a good(or bad) year or hitting better against LHP or RHP, it seems to hold up for the whole season. Then the next season, it may be totally different, so there is some randomness there beyond just ratings. That's why we get so many "Why isn't this guy playing better" posts.
