Opinions: FCP v. 2-3 Zone Topic

Hey guys,

I pretty commonly run a 2-3 zone and it's what I feel most comfortable with.  Some of the D1 teams I'm looking to move up to run FCP, and I'm thinking I'll switch it over to a zone, but I guess if you would, sell me on why I should/might want to stay with FCP

I love the zone at lower D1 (if you know how to gameplan with it, and it sounds like you do). It allows you to take walk-ons (very valuable at lower D1, TAKE WALKONS, you need the extra cash), because you can obviously play with a shorter rotation. I know I was supposed to convince you to run FCP, but I couldn't do it. GL Trev!

I hate the press but if you can run it well it's a stat monster. I think if I wanted high scoring games with lots of TOs I'd stick with the press just for entertainment sake. I've seen some great press coaches and they all seem to have those down years waiting for IQ to grow. I can't take that. But at the same time an upperclassmen laden press team built properly is almost unstoppable.

Really?   I thought you were a "I like to figure stuff out on my own" type of guy.

I clearly am, I'm just asking why I might run FCP despite having a lot of experience with it, and having a fair amount of success with zone...I'm asking for opinions, not manuals here.

It's better.

Zone built properly is a lethal defense, especially knowing the right positioning ... better my ***! Just kidding around Trenton, don't get agitated, lol. Evenly matched teams that are built suited for the type of D being run is dead even., FCP causes mayhem and choas and the zone is just controlled frustration. Personal preference, do you want to test the waters with chaos ... then make the switch, and own face. Just a short stock of zone coaches who build proper zone programs against the mass loads of hall of famers who run man or FCP

Honestly, I think a good zone team is much easier to make and more adaptable to your t opponent's offense.
