I have to agree. The biggest problem with D1 is that high end D2 coaches aren't eligible for decent Big 6 schools. However, if the end goal is a Big 6 school, then moving to a low D1 school or even a mid-major, looks like a huge time-sucking trap that won't necessarily have the payoff of improving your eligibility for the better Big 6 schools. From my reading of the forums, the vast majority of coaches that would like to see a change that would allow some easing of the eligibility for Big 6 schools (to eliminate the low D1 trap) with the trade-off that there would be an increased likelihood that coaches would be fired when their program under-performs baseline expectations of the position they take. The only impact would be at D1, and even then it would, most likely, only be felt at the higher prestige programs.
The site might worry that firing a coach creates a disgruntled customer, so I also suggest that any fired coach could be awarded a season credit and still be eligible for low D1 positions. Further, at D1 only, the bonus for making the Final Four & beyond should be increased by about 30% over the lower division bonuses.
Another solution to this, or in addition to it, would be to further water-down the impact of baseline prestige. The release notes indicate that this has already happened once. I imagine that would also impact the eligibility requirements for those schools.
