PIck my cruddy fielding platoon RF Topic

OK...I'm in need of a vL platoon guy in RF.  I have two sluggling, but bumbling candidates.  Which one do you roll out there for 50 starts, or so?

HarryDiaz is a still-improving 71-92-78-65-76 bat (projects to 74-92-88-75-77) but only a 1-20-66-60 glove (He's a catcher without the PC to catch:  46  My vL Catcher is 64-86-86-52-74, still improving dramatically at 21 w/a much better glove PC than Diaz...so I can't catch Diaz)

JoshHill is 61-97-66-23-60 with the bat  (projects to 67-100-69-26-62) and 54-39-48-46 glove.

Both are yucky baserunners (Diaz = 32 Sp./44 BR  Hill is 22 Sp./44 BR)

Diaz has the advantage of being effective against RHP....which adds to his value as a PH when he doesn't start.  Hill has the advantage of actually wearing a glove or some sort.  But his vR, which will come to play against relief pitchers, is dismal.

Against lefties I'll have VG to Gold Glove quality gloves in LF and CF.  I have a good team and good staff.

So which guy do you go with?  I'm about to commit to Diaz (Edit:  don't know why my stupid fingers originally typed Hill.  Always meant Diaz) as I've used C-types as RF platoons before, but they generally had Range of about 10-12, not 1!  DIaz played 11 games and 102 innings in RF last year (almost all AAA).  He made 0 errors and 14 PO's with 2 minus plays.

Hill played 81 AAA RF games/731 innings with 12 minus plays, 106 PO's and 4 errors.

Can Diaz be worse than that?  How many minus plays does he rack up in 50 starts?

Help me Obie-Wan.  You're my only hope.

Diaz.   He's the better hitter, and has the advantage of being able to stay in the game when a RHP comes in without losing too much offensive effectiveness.  Range is not that important in RF (see MikeT23's "The Rightfielder" thread), but a good arm helps.  Diaz has the better arm over Hill.

Thanks tec.  I've read the RF thread a bunch of times, but I just wasn't sure about that Range of 1!

Diaz, and it's not close; he'll create almost 30 more runs than Hill.  I'd play him even if they had equal arms, and they don't.

Won't matter.   The difference between 1 and 20 is neglible.    If you accept you're getting 20-25 negative a season(and virtually never 2 in one game), you'll be alright.   Just know your staff will have to throw an extra 10 pitches from time to time.

Diaz it is.  BTW, I made an edit to my original post.  I always meant that I was leaning towards Diaz, but in a hurry I typed in "Hill" w/o intention.  I will probably start Hill up for 22 games or so...then demote him and bring up Diaz.

That RF thread is probably one of the most informative and eye-opening threads on the HBD forum. Kudo's to MikeT for bringing that to light. It sure does make a lot of low-PC 'catchers' more useful on NL teams.

Isn't it kind of funny that 1 Range plays as more of a detriment behind the plate than in RF?

Re-read it and bumped it.
