Recruiting battle against bigger school Topic

I have a D+ prestige and there is this player i really like, only problem is that he is being sought by a school with B prestige. That school is in the Big East, and have room for 3 scholarships, i already seen that team seeking total of 5 players and 1 player that looks like they will go on bidding war. I have 5 scholarships and $60,000 budget that i can use (rest spent on my other recruits), do i have a shot at getting this player? what's the equivalance of me getting him compared to his school, is it like 3 HV & 3 CV by me the same as 1 HV & 1 CV more or less by his school?

depends on a number of factors such as distances involved and how committed the BE school is to the kid. The players he has listed may be the result of as few as 3 or 4 scouting trips. It doesn't take much to get listed at higher prestige schools, so don't assume he's spent all his money just because he shows more considering than he has spots.

I personally don't think the prestige ratio is as high as you have it, but you will need to put in considerably more $ to equal the same effort. Not sure how the BE did in Smith, but generally the big 6 get at least the equivalent of an extra scholarship of post season cash, often much more. With his prestige advantage and potentially at least similar if not more cash, even a distance advantage wouldn't generally be enough, especially since it look like you'd be picking the battle. If FSS shows him tight with at least 3 other kids and not 100% sold on the kid you like maybe that's an indicator the kid is a backup option, but that's far from a surefire assumption.

Realistically I'd say you have little chance. I'm not saying it can't be done, but (and I mean this with no rude intent) if you have to ask about the possibility its unlikely you are battle savvy enough to pull it off.

A last bit of advice - if you do go forward with this (or even just to protect what you already have) its generally a not great idea to tell everyone that reads the forum how much you've spent and how much you have left. Knowledge is power in recruiting and the less sure info you provide the other guy the better off you will be. GL.

if he wants him, you have absolutely zero chance. but yea you probably shouldn't post your exact numbers on here for the other school to see lol

It's your 2nd season in DI, it would be wise to move on or have a good back up plan without mortgaging the house in what will probably be a futile effort.

I think you should also remove the actual figures from your original post.

And get a good mentor :)

That's  helping me, I know, and I haven't even gotten to gameplan my first game yet.  D1 is a bit of a different animal than the D2 and D3 I am used to playing.  Some of my old strategies just don't work any more, or are only good if I want to be a mediocre coach.

Ethan, some of your old strategies might not work (although, since you haven't played a game yet, you never know) and D1 IS a bit of a different animal than D2 and D3, but what DID work well in the lower levels will also generally work well in D1.  D1 is a bit different, sure, but don't forget, it's still the same engine simming every game.  Solid strategies are solid strategies and will work at any of the three levels.  I'd be interested to hear which of your strategies your mentor is telling you that worked at the lower levels won't work in D1 (whoever your mentor is).  Sitemail me, I'll give you a second opinion.

I've never played D1, but I monitor the top teams, and I'd say that the same characteristics generally make a good team good at any level.  The real differences are primarily tied up in recruiting and recruiting strategy, not so much player evaluation and even less so gameplanning and team makeup.

I was mainly referring to recruiting strategies.  Having 3x the money as I did in D2, and 5x as much as D3 makes it a whole new ballgame as far as distances,  approach and battles.

It's turned out to be one of the things I like best about this move to D1.  Less worry about money and having a larger field of better players available.
