Promised Starts Topic

So it's been awhile since I haven't started a freshman after promising him a start, but I was wondering when does the WE hit/angry email usually take place?

I'm 13 games in and nothing's happened. I'm kind of okay with that, but regardless of what happens with this kid's work ethic, he's probably getting cut at the end of the season, so I'm just curious as to when, if ever, he'll react to my broken promise.

None of your players are showing the icon that indicates you promised you'd start them. That may mean you didn't actually make the promise as far as the game is concerned. If that's true it is certainly to your benefit now, but it probably also didn't help you during recruiting (even though you thought it did). I'm guessing the reason you aren't hearing complaints is because you thought you made a promise that didn't "take" in the game somehow.

I'm seeing the icon. I didn't think anyone other than myself was supposed to be able to see the icon anyway?

And I'm fine with him not complaining, but this would be a neat perk since I signed him for solely a promised start and a scholarship.

Maybe the icon is only visible to you - I have never viewed my team when not logged in, so I didn't think of that.

At any rate, either there is a glitch somewhere or perhaps there are players (I suspect very few) who don't care if the promise goes unfulfilled. Anyone else got any info on that possibility?

Bistiza-his WE finally dropped and he complained that he's been "rotting on the bench" for 16 games even though we've only played 15 and haven't had a bye yet.

Data point for you.  I recently promised a FR a start and had no intention of delivering.  He complained once after 0 starts through 7 games, then complained again after the 11th game (12th day).  And of course he transferred after the season.

I did find it interesting that he gained back the lost WE after transferring.  I think it dropped down to 5 during the season but returned to the original 17 when he left.

You did have a bye - there are 11 schedule spots in the non-con schedule, but almost everyone has a bye in the last one.

I've gotta ask.   Why did you even bother promising him a start?

This is what I hear:

"I'm willing to go as far as promising a start to a recruit I want badly yet I'm willing to let him leave the team the following season."

I did the exact same thing this season for this guy and probably the same thing killbatman did - http://whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=0&pid=2588110 - I needed a ball control 2 really bad that could score a point or 2, despite him being high and blue in a lot of his cores, his low W/E will never allow him to grow - there were no decent guards available for four years without battling and I was already in a battle I intended to win and, this was an easy $110 and filled this years void - have him leave at the end of the season and get 5k back.  Watch him not decide to transfer

You are also going to take a reputation hit next year, which may affect recruiting negatively.

The 5k is worth more than the tiny rep hit. Especially for the guys with high A+'s

Just sounds like poor roster management to me.

Here was the situation.  It was a FB/Press team with 5 open spots, so I couldn't really afford multiple walkons.  I battled a conf team for an elite player and had to give up after spending 11.5k (this was D3 and he spent over 13k).  I couldn't afford to battle to the last dollar and take several walkons, and I would've still lost doing that anyway.

So obviously I had to scramble to fill my open spots after wasting that much money.  One of them was a guard with very good ratings for a FR (about 75 Spd and 60-70 BH/Pass), but with low potential all over and terrible WE.  I 110'd him because he was across the country and I couldn't afford visits.  He played about 10 mpg backing up PG/SG and allowed me to RS a much better FR guard without hurting the team by playing with 10.  I am COMPLETELY ok with taking a small rep hit to be able to manage my roster like that, and we won't miss him at all going forward because he had absolutely zero upside.

Note I wouldn't do this in real life because it's pretty sleazy, but I don't feel bad doing it in a game with fake players.
