Which player would you take? Topic

D3, Triangle, M2M. Assume you have an equal future need for a SG and a SF, and that you could redshirt the player you pick. I've listed their current ratings and their potential below (don't know which type of high for either player).

Player 1:
ATH  63 High
SPD  38 Medium
REB  23 Low
DEF  49 High
BLK 13 Medium
LP  10 Medium
PER  27 High
BH  11 High
PAS  11 Medium
WE  53
STA  77 High
FT 72% Low

Player 2:
ATH  51 Medium
SPD  41 High
REB  12 High
DEF  28 High Medium
BLK  9 Low
LP  7 Low
PER  27 High
BH  49 Medium
PAS  57  Low
WE  37
STA  74 High
FT  69% Medium

I would definitely take Player 1.  His WE will help him surpass Player 2 in no time.  His lack BH and PAS will be made up by his DEF and ATH combo.  Player 1 will be a strong role player for you if his DEF has room to improve.

Sorry, I accidentally put Player 2's DEF potential as mid - it's actually high. Not sure if that changes anything.

Doesn't change anything.  Player 1 has a better shot of developing into a solid player.  You might have yourself a nice little SF soon.

I really don't like the speed of player #1. IMO, you would really need to know which high's are high-high's to make a decision, if you had to between these.

i like #1 a lot better, and I think speed at the SF position is overrated (especially when you're playing man, and not press).

An 80/50/70 ath/spd/def guy at d3 is a stud defender. With low distro he is a great player.

But player 2 could also become a 60/90/60 ath/spd/def with good rebounding. Really need to know which highs are high high to give a definitive answer.

Thanks for the responses, folks. It was a really hard decision, but I ended up going with player 2, partly because he was cheaper to recruit, but mostly because of his potential for positional flexibility. With his BH / PAS combo, if his SPD is high-high, he's going to be workable at either guard spot. And if his REB and PER are high-high, he's easily playable at the 3.  For player 1, the defensive potential is huge, but I worried about the SPD and PAS.

As tianyi and others mentioned, this is really going to come down to how high Player 2's high's become, esp in DEF and PER.

Player 1 is High in both DEF and PER too from what you show on the original message.  Plus his WE is going to get him improved much quicker. He also looks like someone who will get more minutes right off the bat then Player 2 which will get his WE up quicker.  I understand the cheaper recruit being an easier pickup but I think Player 1 was a better player now and in the future.  Something to learn from I suppose.  #1 recruiting class my last 2 rounds of recruiting.  Toot toot.

Like I said, it was a hard choice, and I can see Player 1's advantages ending up being huge. But the low BH / PAS meant that he could only be a 3, while Player 2 could easily become a combo player. Like tianyi said, either player could be a stud if there are enough high-high's, and either could be a mild disappointment if they're not. I'm comfortable with my choice.

And as far as the #1 recruiting class... OK. I've had top ten recruiting classes before and lost in the second round. I had 4 straight non-ranked classes and won a NC.
