We're finishing up Coach Hiring and I noticed some owners are paying upwards of $3 mil to hire what looks like a pitching coach (hi pitching and under 10 for hitting, fielding and base running) with a 97 Strategy Rating to be his ML bench coach. This is what the help section says about the role of the coached and the strategy rating.
" At the big league level, you'll need a bench coach, hitting coach, pitching coach, bullpen coach, 1B & 3B coach. The 1B & 3B coaches contribute to the development of players' base stealing and base running. The hitting coach, with a little help from the 1B & 3B coach, contributes to the development of all hitting ratings. The pitching coach, with some help from the bullpen coach, contributes to the development of pitcher ratings. The bench coach takes over as manager after any managerial ejection."
" This is the coach's strategy rating. The higher the rating, the more likely he'll succeed as a bench coach. Bench coaches are important, because they can improve/hurt the day-to-day management operations of a minor league franchise as well as affect in-game decision making (even at the big league level if the manager gets ejected). They generally have different managerial settings than the ones you've set, for instance. "
Am I missing something? So if the big league coach isn't ejected then what exactly does he do?
Also, a couple of owners each season hire Fielding Instructors to be their Bench Coaches. Any evidence that this either improves their players' fielding development.? In my limited experience, if you are hoping they will want o be your fielding coach the next year they don't do that.
