I'm new to Hardball Dynasty and preparing for my first draft, where I have the second overall pick. The top two prospects are starting pitchers, and one, Bill Perry, clearly has better ratings than the other, Tom Caldwell, except for stamina. Perry has a projected stamina of just 59. Do you think he could be an ace starter with that rating? Or am I better off draftin the other guy?

No one will be able to see ratings, unless they are in you league.  That said, I tend to go quality over quantity.  But a 59 STA projection maybe closer to 50 at the end of the day.  Wouldn't be able to say anything definitive without know College/High School Budget Allocations and Projections.

I don't think anyone outside of your world can see these players.

59 STA is low for an SP, unless the DUR is over 30. Even then, it's low. And most players will not hit most of their projections.

The best way to answer questions like this is to look for players with comparable ratings in your world and other worlds and see who many inn they throw.

One thing I'm not worried about is Perry not hittin his potential stamina. His current rating is 57, so he's already close. I'm jus worried that the potential still Isn't good enough.

Looks like you have budgets of 12 COL and 8 HS.  Neither one is going to give you very accurate projections, but the COL projections should be a tad bit better than HS projections.  You haven't told us whether these guys are COL or HS prospects.

That said, Perry is a little better than Caldwell, though Caldwell is no slouch.  Better splits, comparable pitches, better velocity (which is really just a secondary rating, not as important as control/splits/pitches).

At 30/59 DUR/STA, you'll get a decent amount of innings from Perry, so that shouldn't be that big a concern.  He won't give you any complete games, but depending on how you set your pitch counts you can probably start him every fourth day.

Thanks for the help. For the record, they're both college guys. Looking back, I wish I'd have set my scouting budgets higher, especially with such a high draft pick. But I have to chalk that up to a rookie mistake.

I'd be inclined put Perry-Caldwell 1-2, just because if either misses their projections by 5 points, Perry will still be an absolute stud, while Caldwell would only be above average.  

If STA/DUR are your major concerns, it's especially relevant to know the ages of the prospects.  For pitchers, 18 y.o. prospects commonly have a lot of room to grow in STA, while 22 y.o. draftees commonly grow much, much less.  So for a 21 or 22 y.o., it's safe to assume little STA growth, but 18 and 19 yo., STA growth is much more likely.  So if Perry is 18 or 19, he's likely to grow much more than 2 points.
