success recruiting with one or two schollies? Topic

anyone ever pull off that highly unlikely signing of a coveted player with 2 or less schollies?

At D1?  No.   At D2 and D3?  Lots of times.

No, and I actually hate one person classes worse then large classes!  It seems that you need a better quality, but unless you had benefit of holdover cash or Conference Cash, you don't have enough money to get the quality.  That is only my view, but it happens every time I am in that situation.

At D1 - and assuming you're in a power conference maybe 35k+ conference cash -

If it were me, I would identify the best local recruit and sink all 55k in on the first period.  I think you have a chance if you have an A- or higher.   If it is less than that I  would play the waiting game and look to see who is vulnerable and try to snipe someone off.

it's tough, but really what  do you have to lose? One walk on won't kill you and if you have 6 guys in your JR. class just sign some role player for 2k real late.

I'm really trying to figure out how to build a solid program with Louisville - I didn't realize before I took it over - and I guess I've discovered even more so as the seasons have passed by that it's not in an ideal location for quick success. I saw the A- baseline and jumped at the job - but with an extremely good Big 10 above me and an eager ACC east of me - and a growing SEC south of me it seems an impossible feat. These 1 or 2 season classes hurt because  the generation has been better in my area during these seasons - so to leave with nothing is big setback once the 5 or 6 man SR class leaves. I can only see two worlds Phelan and Tark and Louisville is mediocre in both so I don't have any model to immulate.

It's tough. I had one scholly & cash from two teams making postseason. D1. A-10 team with C- prestige. I went in heavy on 1 target 340 miles away. Spent money on nobody else. Got him tight as early as possible. Penn State, with same prestige but armed with cash from its conferencemates & more scholarships was able to come in late and steal him. Lesson - should have gone with the backyard kid who was only marginally less talented. So I agree with Trenton Joe.

ok - thanks for the advice. With my luck an A+ sim will be on the one recruit I want... smh.

is there any such thing as an A+ sim? Actually a sim being on the kid you want would be a blessing. You know how much effort it takes to beat a sim, and they aren't going to keep coming back after you. Once you take the lead you should keep it, and some coaches who might not be diligent might see the kid in a battle and just move on without checking to see the details...

I've tried different strategies with the 1 scholly at D1.  I've tried the "all in on the first cycle" and I've still lost.  I've tried the "all in on the ineligible" and still lost.  Having only one scholly is like having a target on your back.  I think the best is to be a sniper and just snipe a recruit at the cycle before signings.

if not A+ then A ish - either way with one scholly and less than A level prestige I'd most likely not have the cash to get ahead if I only had one scholly. If you mean a regular sucky sim then you're right - it may be a blessing but those kind of sims are never on the kids I look at.

Allen right now has the following schools as Sims:

UNC, A+
NC State, A+
Georgia Tech, A+
Oklahoma St, A
Texas Tech, A
Virginia, A
Ohio State, B+
Syracuse, B+
Providence, B+
Georgetown, B+

This is also a note to people who are claiming that elite jobs never come open.

I have seen some great signings in D1 with 1 or 2 scholarships. In recent memory, amsiegel signed the best SG in the country with 1 scholarship in Phelan, while coaching Duke. And on the same note, he signed no one with 6 scholarships a couple of times...
