Horacio Rodriguez

Is it likely that this guy could be an effective SP.. It would be cool to see a similar players results..

I think he projected out to be around 35 control, 90+ splits, 90 Velocity 85 GB, 85/80/70 for pitches.. His OVR was over 60 at 18yrs old.. Not that OVR means a whole hell of a lot...

I thought I got him pretty cheap but I have no clue if he will work out..

He'll be horrible.   Check BB/9(worst) in team records and you'll find similar players.   If they got enough innings to qualify.

I'm far less experienced than Mike so I'll defer to him, but would note I had this guy before I left Cool Papa Bell and in admittedly smallish sample he was just fine if not pretty good.  IF Rodriguez ends up with numbers like you've projected he should be better than Lobstein, right?

That's actually pretty good.   Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Angel Owen is the lowest I used for more than an experiment.  Results were mixed but he didn't have the splits like your guy.

Maybe 35 control with 90 splits will work.

I kind of signed him on accident..  I tossed $9M on him while I was drunk and forgot all about him until he signed with me a week or so later..

Checked a few more.   The control was worse(20s) as were the splits(80s).   No experience with mid 30s/low 90s guys.

here is a comp for what you are looking for, he is on my ML team and has pitched several season in the ML with mixed results.

You signed him with an IFA budget of $12m, and you currently have an ADV budget of $0m, so whatever projections you are seeing are suspect to begin with.  But let's assume that it's 35 control and 90 splits for the sake of discussion.

The best way to offset low control is with very high splits.  This guy seems to project to that, but even at 35 control, I'm not sure if 90 splits are going to be good enough.  I would distrust anybody with less than mid-40's for control, because they're just going to be walking too many hitters.  At least he has a high GB rating, so that reduces the chances of walk-walk-3-run-bomb.

gdmetz's guy should give you some hope that he will work out, provided he comes close to projections (which are very questionable to begin with).

I had a guy with 35 control win 20 games in Joey Belle one season. He was horrible otherwise, must have caught lightning in a bottle.

His proj splits with 12 scouting were 95/100... I'm guessing 90/90 is more realistic..and you're right probably not accurate..

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Richard Waltman Here's the closest approximation in my league.  He's serviceable, especially if he plays in a pitcher's park.

It looks to me that your guy will have a lower P1 than Waltman, and he's also a lefty.  I've never had much luck with lefties, but sometimes they have magical seasons that they pull out of their a$$e$.
