Going after a higher prestige school recruit Topic

Me:
D1
C prestige
3 scholarships open
Can offer a starting position

Him:
A prestige
3 scholarships open
2 other players considering him that are ranked in the top 15 so he definitely threw some money at them ("high priority for ...")
Recruit is "definitely leaning" towards playing there
Would not be a starter

A full day left of recruiting.  Is it worth dropping all of my budget on him?

factors you may (or may not but should) be considering that you didn't mention: conference budgets. carryover potential. distance from recruit for both, is the recruit a pulldown or immediately recruitable for you?

short answer is almost assuredly not worth it. He's probably got around a 2:1 prestige advantage, so at equal distance your 40k is only 20 for him to match...

also, posting this here tells everyone reading the thread your remaining budget, so you might not want that...

Don't see any possible advantage you could have, other than your assumption that the other coach has spent a lot of their budget already.  Also safe to assume that he is in a better conference than you.  Unless you have a huge distance advantage, it seems like a terrible idea to me.

It also looks like the player in question isn't even considering you yet.

The starter means very little at that level.  It's worth a CV or so.   You could win if you drop your wad and then someone else goes after one of his other recruits.   If you have nothing to lose, go for it.  Make him spend the cash,  if you have a significant distance advantage you have a slim chance.

The other option is wait for signings and then find a diamond in the rough.  With what you have left you can scout a lot and still have some coin left to sign a player.

yeah, if we're offering alternatives, start looking around and try to determine the bigger schools' backup plans and keep your eyes on those players after signings.

Agree with all your replies.  I'm backing out.
