I waived a player with no options and he cleared the waivers.  I went to demote him and he refused the demotion.  If I release him will I still be responsible for his full contract even if he rejects going to the minors.

You used to be able to designate them if they refused assignment and they'd accept it after the designation.   Try that.

Thanks for the quick response!  I have never designated a player before. Just to make sure I do it right do I designate him with waivers even though he just cleared waivers?  I saw in the help section that after 10 days he would automatically be released. Not sure what I'm doing and do not want to get stuck with this contract without the player. Please advise.

If it says cleared on his waiver status, go ahead and try to designate without waivers.

Designate with waivers.   Since he's already cleared, it might throw a monkey wrench into the plan.    Either way, if you just designate without waivers, he might still refuse assignment.   


And, quite honestly, they may have closed the loophole.  But it can't hurt to try.  Worst case scenario, you have to put him back on your BL roster.

It worked. I designated him for assignment and then assigned him to AAA.
