I have a guy who is rated 87 overall potential with core metrics

Range - 80
Glove - 92
Arm Strength - 98
Arm Accuracy - 91
Speed

Contact - 84
Power - 77
Vs. L - 95
Vs. R - 72
Eye - 69
Baserunning - 73

Only issue I have is his durability potential is only 70....

I have enough prospect budget that I can beat out anyone in the league for any Int'l FA and we are still in Spring Training..... Should I go all out for this guy? Or is his low durability worth waiting to see if I can find someone better?

I'd find it very difficult to pass up on a guy like that.  There is no guarantee you will see anything better or even close to as good the rest of the season.

How much is he asking for, how much is your IFA scouting budget, and what are his current ratings and age? If over 5 million asking, 16m budget, 18 yrs old, and within 20-25 of each of the non physical attributes, I would not let anyone else touch him.

Assuming for a second he reaches all of those projections....

yes you sign him, w/o hesitation.

The durability means that you'll need a backup on the bench and have to use the backup for a decent chunk of games, however you can usually find a good defensive SS with a decent enough bat to hit 8th or 9th at little cost over the time frame that it takes to develop that guy.

However, on the flip side once the playoffs start, you'll likely have the best overall SS in your world, a huge assest.  If you give him proper rest during the regular season, you won't have to worry about him being less than 100% when playing him every day in the playoffs with all of the off days.  If you're paying attention you can rest him vs right handers in games where you're playing a rebuilding franchise.  Sitting him 40-50 games a year will cost you a few wins, but build up the franchise around him and you should be able to land one of the 6 playoff spots then have the availability of the best overall SS when it counts the most.

Now, the question is, can he really hit those projections.  Is he an 18 year old that is relatively close to all those numbers an realistically w/n reach, or is he a 21 year old that is never going to come anywhere close to those projections and is more likely to be what he is today when he is 27 than anywhere close to what those projections say.  If those projections are realistic, I'm guessing he's asking for $7-$8.5 mil.  I believe $10 mil is the top asking price, which I've seen a grand total of 1 time.

He's asking 5.6 million and is 18 years old and good enough ratings now that I think he will be close to peak ratings. I'm now going after him full force and bidding more than the next highest prospect bonus. I just need to make sure I save enough to sign the #4 pick in the draft

I've seen 11.5m and 13m asking before.

Thanks cdc80uf, were they "may sign if the deal is right" or "probably won't sign"  The guy I saw @ $10 mil was a "would love to sign" and easily the best IFA I've ever seen.  He was 18 and had most of his key pitching ratings as well as 2 or 3 pitches already in the 70s.  Just seemed too convinent to have that easy of a round number associated w/ a guy that has to have top flight projections to be a conicidence, but tied into programming.
