Marshall and the NC Topic

Am I crazy (of course) but I seem to recall someone posting that one of the Great Coaches on here won the National Championship at Marshall. If so, when was this, recently?
Thanks in advance

Wow. That is mighty impressive and heartwarming that at least someone could do that

He's without question one of the best coachs in the game currently... but this wasn't a solo act, and he would be the very first one to tell you that.

I hope by this you mean it was thanks to the effort of the conference and not collusion.

Absolutely. Having a really strong group of coaches filling the rest of the conference is an absolute key. As great as girt is, he couldn't have recruited the players he did if conference prestige kept Marshall at an A-, and numerous other teams weren't playing multiple NT games every season to rack up cash.

agreed. its really a shame girt has left the game, even though his title count wasn't as high, and he doesn't have one of the "great runs" in the string of titles sense, hes one of only a few coaches i consider strongly in the running for the best coach ever. more importantly, he used his powers for good so to speak, it seemed he was always having something going on, some conference experiment or something, and those things IMO are very, very good for the game. racking up titles wasn't his primary goal, but if it was, im pretty confident he would have had a good deal more of them (which is saying something, as he has like 15 as is, or something like that). its a shame seble didn't seem to put a tremendous amount of stock in girt's view on the game, and its limitations, as i think girt really understood how changes to the game could impact game play and the enjoyment of the community, like roughly no other coach could. in retrospect i would feel his concerns were even more on point than my own, he definitely "had the pulse of the community", as he liked to say.

When (and why) did he leave?
5/8/2014 4:04 PM
a little boredom... and a second baby girl being on her way to his house

and as to when... he dropped UNC in Allen like 3-4 seasons back.
and just retired from Marshall couple weeks ago.

Check out the CUSA Rupp scholarship Fund thread he started when he decided to retire.

When a guy cares enough about the game to continue to fund teams in the conference / project, (he spearheaded as an experiment just to see for sure it could be done) even after he quits... he's a pretty big loss to the site.

That is really too bad that he left. I wonder if Seble is actually aware of what a big loss it is?

Well at least we have etta's wealth of knowledge to fill in the void.

If I hadn't already used both my ratings for today, this would've gotten a +1--hilarious!
